Job description
The Pastured Poultry assistant manager position for Smyly Farms requires 50 hours/week during peak production(May-sept), 40 hours/week(oct-april), and living on farm.
We are offering a room for rent in our newly renovated farm house.
This job position includes an emphasis on multi species livestock production; mainly being poultry.
Currently we raise both broiler and laying , chickens and ducks , on pasture in a regeneratively managed system.
This position includes everything involved in managing a pastured poultry system such as loading, recording and documenting; as well as hauling feed to 5 different flocks of poultry.
Also required is weekly moving of electric poultry netting, moving of mobile poultry houses, egg collection and documentation, and working closely with the owner to manage this system correctly.
From pressure washing nesting boxes, to repairing mobile poultry structures if damaged from bad weather; this job requires a multitude of tasks to ensure production is efficient and producing the best quality of life for our poultry.
Due to our focus on our poultry health many other tasks are involved, such as health management with probiotics and ACV, careful attention to poultry health and their impact on the land, and the utilization of poultry products such as grit.
During hot weather, there is a careful emphasis on management of our automatic watering systems to ensure properly working. (Think Ducks drink more than chickens!)
During cold weather we prepare extra water buckets of water for the morning when water could possible be inaccessible due to freezing ; we attempt to drain water lines in the evening, and ensure our well and waterlines are properly working with no leaks or busts.
Managing employees:
We have a daily chores list for each employee that requires making sure the employees are managed correctly and efficiently.
Multiple flocks of poultry requires careful and precise management of different types of feed administered for each species, as well as the recording and documentation on our daily chores checklist.
This job position is rain or shine and includes possible year-round broiler production, full time laying hen and duck egg production; as well as an integration of vegetable production.

Compensation
this position is: hourly, $20/hr +
