Job description
Caras Nursery is looking for motivated individuals who are looking to gain valuable greenhouse and horticultural experience in the Spring season by assisting our Growing Manager in day-to-day operations. This is an entry-level position with significant opportunities to learn about greenhouse operations, horticulture, and annual ornamental plants.
Daily duties include prepping pots and hanging baskets for planting, planting plugs, and up-potting, pinching, and spacing plants. Moving plant material within and between greenhouses, loading and unloading flats, cleaning, weeding, and receiving shipments are also very large parts of the job.
We place a large emphasis on providing employees with opportunities to gain valuable experience that can set them up for their future. Working in our growing operation provides tremendous education on specific needs of different annual plants, proper watering strategies, pest identification and management, and much more. Part of our operation includes growing custom orders for local businesses and customers, giving the role a uniquely creative element.
Job requires the ability to lift or move up to 25lbs, and push/pull racks on wheels of 100lbs with or without reasonable accommodation. Job requires employees to be on their feet for long periods of time, sit, climb, balance, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch or crawl with or without reasonable accommodation. Employees must also be able to work in all greenhouse conditions including wet, humid, dusty, dirty, and extreme hot/cold temperatures.
Applicants should ready and willing to follow close instruction with with efficiency and work as part of a small, close-knit team who are passionate about plants. This is a seasonal role with employment March-June, opportunities to join another department within the nursery may arise later in the season, but this is not guaranteed.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $15.00 - $16.00
