Job description
We are looking for a Cheese & Charcuterie Supervisor to join our team. The Cheese & Charcuterie Supervisor will play a vital role in driving the success of our Cheese & Charcuterie department, training the team, managing some of our suppliers and supporting major initiatives. This position is an individual contributor role but you will be in charge of the counter when the Manager is not present and responsible for training cheesemongers. The right candidate will need flexibility to work evenings and weekends as we scale the business. We are looking for an individual who dreams big, cares about details, and has a track record of success in similar roles.
Responsibilities include:
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure all health, safety and sanitation standards are met, including proper storage and handling of perishable items; comply with all relevant regulations, including those related to food safety
- Training & Team Development: Assist in leading and training the cheesemonger team, including building out our training program
- Inventory Management: Help curate and manage cheese cheese selections and inventory, including updating the scale and POS systems
- Merchandising: Ensure proper handling, storage and display of cheeses; work with our Visual Merchandising Supervisor to create an attractive cheese and charcuterie display
- Customer Service: Assist customers with cheese pairings, knowledge and recommendations, and support cheesemongers on difficult customer interactions
- Sales Performance: Collaborate with the management team to optimize sales and customer satisfaction
- Counter Supervision: Take over all responsibilities of the cheese and charcuterie counter and team when the Department head is absent
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other NM Supervisors on relevant initiatives
Key Skills Required:
- 1-2 years’ experience as a cheesemonger
- Passion for cheese and charcuterie and a strong understanding of cheese culture, trends, and products
- Ability to work with people of various backgrounds
- Availability to work weekday, weekend, morning, and evening shifts
- Demonstrated ability to operate in an entrepreneurial environment, to learn fast and to maintain attention to detail with accuracy and consistency
- Must have reliable transportation (public transportation is available through bus and commuter rail)
