Now in our sixteenth season, Next Barn Over is a queer-owned and operated 40-acre organic vegetable farm in Western Massachusetts. Our farm is located in the bottom of an ancient lake-bed in some of the best soils in New England. We grow a full menu of organic vegetables for our CSA and many local wholesale markets. Next Barn Over also partners with community organizations to make our produce accessible through subsidized shares and food pantries.
Job description
Next Barn Over Farm is hiring for positions in several areas:
Farm Crew: Full and part-time positions, start between March and June and go through October or November
Farm crew are involved in all aspects of crop production such as seeding, transplanting, weeding, harvesting, and post-harvest handling, and include specialized roles in tractor operation, greenhouse, washroom, irrigation, and CSA distribution.
Tractor Operator: Full or part-time position available, March through October. Experience required.
Greenhouse Manager: Part-time, or Full-time when combined with another role, March through September. Experience required.
Assistant Farm Manager: Full-time, Year-round or Seasonal. Experience required.
Responsible for leading our farm crew efficiently through daily harvests and fieldwork. Assisting farm manager with establishing weekly and daily task and harvest lists. Assigning and implementing tasks during day-to-day operation, and adjusting plans as weather, timing, and other factors mandate. Assisting during off-season with farm and crop planning, ordering, and hiring. Applicants must have excellent organization and communication skills, be able to move efficiently through tasks and inspire others to do the same, and have a minimum of 3 years farm experience in a similar operation. Spanish-language is a plus.
