We grow salad greens, tomatoes, specialty vegetables, and shiitake mushrooms. We also raise laying hens, pastured poultry, and hogs. Our produce is sold at our on-site farm store and local farmer's market. Our farm-to-table kitchen highlights the authenticity of what we produce. North Tabor Farm on Martha’s Vineyard seeks a passionate and creative cook excited about making seasonal, nutritious, and delicious food with ingredients sourced from our fields.
Job Opportunity: Seasonal Lead Cook(May-November) for a busy farm stand and farmers markets.
Position Overview: As the lead cook in The North Tabor Farm Kitchen, you'll create soups, salads, dips, sauces, baked goods, and sides for our small, bustling farm store, farmers' markets, and wood-fired oven outdoor dinners.
Our farm takes pride in growing high-quality produce and pastured meat; your creativity and efficiency will help us continue to expand our value-added business.
Responsibilities:
- Utilize your cooking techniques to craft nutritious, delicious food and pack it for the farm store, farmer’s market, and more.
- Collaborate with the farm store manager and farm manager to plan weekly menus, order necessary supplies, ensure margin goals are achieved, and share menus /photos with our social media manager.
- Maintain a clean, organized workspace that meets or exceeds Massachusetts food safety standards.
- Evaluate and monitor best and slow sellers weekly and adjust future menu planning accordingly.
- Construct product cost analysis and maintain inventory records on all ingredients and supplies used by the North Tabor Farm Kitchen to ensure minimal wastage.
- Research and develop new recipes to provide variety for customers, increase sales, and utilize North Tabor Farm and local seasonal ingredients when possible. Save recipes and menus in a digital format.
- Willingness and ability to learn and grow to meet the changing requirements of the job.
Qualifications:
- Professional culinary experience(Must have solid culinary knowledge with hands-on experience cooking and baking in commercial kitchens).
- Efficient time management, attention to detail, and a strong desire to work with natural foods.
- Able to work 30 to 40 hours per week.
- Professional demeanor with a positive attitude and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to work independently in the kitchen and ability to grow to meet the changing requirements of the job.
- Ability to lift 50#.
- Computer skills knowledge (Email, Word/Google Docs, and Google Sheets).
- Strong communication skills, assertiveness, and decisiveness are essential.
- Previous food-service leadership experience is preferred.
Compensation:
$25 per hour
