Job description
Position: Executive Director
Status: Full-time, exempt
Hours: 20-35 hours/week. This position works regular business hours but must be available some evenings or weekends to represent CDFU when circumstances arise.
Salary: $40,000-70,000/year

Location: Must be an Alaska resident. Qualified candidates based outside of Cordova will be considered. Remote work possibilities and some travel required.
Reports to: The Executive Director reports to the full Board of Directors, but is singularly managed by the Board President.
Job Summary
The CDFU Executive Director is a full-time, exempt position responsible for the leadership and management for the organization. This position guides CDFU operations and support of fishermen members and the Area E fleet at large through political advocacy, organizing fishermen, education, and connection to resources.
The Executive Director will build upon a strong foundation to bring CDFU to its next level of impact. In addition to managing daily operations of the organization, this position requires excellent interpersonal skills, effective relationships with partners, and will work to enhance both the organization’s financial stability and the outlook for regional fisheries.
Leadership + Management
- Daily oversight of operations, finance, and programming in accordance with organizational bylaws, policies and state and federal law.
- In collaboration with the Board of Directors and their strategic plan, identify annual goals for programming, fundraising, and outreach, and ensure those goals are met or exceeded.
- Support and attend monthly Board of Directors meetings and board committee meetings.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships and cooperative partnerships to strategically enhance CDFU’s mission.
- Hire, manage, and develop staff.
- Manage contractors and consultants (including bookkeeper, accountant, lobbyist).
- Manage internal and external organizational contracts.
Financial Management
- Ensure the fiscal integrity of CDFU by drafting a budget for board approval, monitoring and reporting budget activities, ensuring the organization operates with budget guidelines and its financial policies and procedures.
- Identify and pursue fundraising and earned income activities to support program operations.
- Work with the Board Treasurer, bookkeeper and accountant to provide timely and accurate financial reports to the Board of Directors.
- Identify, engage and steward prospective and current members.
- Identify and pursue grants through research, writing and reporting, and relationship building with grant funders.
Maintain state and federal compliance.
Advocacy + Communications
- Facilitate development of policy positions, endorsements, public comment and legislation.
Monitor and represent CDFU in regulatory industry forums like Board of Fisheries, North Pacific Fisheries Management Council, International Pacific Halibut Commission, etc.
Provide organizational support to gear-group advisory committees.
Maintain an informed and engaged membership body and fleet by drafting and disseminating relevant content.
Act as primary spokesperson to constituents, media and general public.
Create and implement annual communications plan.
Represent CDFU to stakeholders in professional meetings, presentations, events, and functions.
- Minimum Requirements
- Proven written and verbal communications skills.
Persuasive and clear communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
Literacy in Google Workspace, Adobe Acrobat, Mailchimp, Canva, Quickbooks Online, and social media.
Competent technology skills to manage videoconferences

- Past success working in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
- Strong marketing, communications, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures.
- Self-directed, commitment to excellence, high attention to detail, ability to plan and implement short- and long-term goals.
- Experience and knowledge (personal or professional) of Alaska fisheries and government affairs
- Experience working effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people with a wide range of beliefs, experiences, lifestyles, and practices.
- Knowledge of best practices for non-profit organization management and operations
Physical Requirements
- Job is performed in an office (or home office) setting with extended periods of sitting, exposure to computer screens, and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, and mouse. The work described herein is primarily modern office work.
- Occasional lifting, moving, and carrying.
Compensation
this position is: salaried, varies DOE, $40,000.00 - $70,000.00
