Job description
The Senior Manager (SM) is a key leadership role at Homefront Farmers, requiring an experienced grower with at least 5 years of growing experience and 3 years of managerial and customer service experience. The SM is responsible for mentoring and managing a team of Homestead Managers (HMs) and ensuring the highest level of organic gardening practices and client service.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, Manage, and Hold Accountable (LMA)
Staff Oversight: Manage and mentor 3-4 Homestead Managers (HMs), ensuring they are confident in providing white-glove service to clients.
Training: Provide one-on-one guidance to HMs, answering questions, offering advice, and helping troubleshoot gardening challenges.
Expert Guidance: Serve as the go-to person for gardening tips, client service guidance, and operational support.
Staff Meetings and Development
Monday Staff Meetings: Work with other Senior Managers to organize and lead weekly staff meetings that discuss priorities, plantings, and troubleshooting for pest, disease, and client challenges.
Training: Ensure Homestead Managers are trained, attentive, and tested on seasonal best practices.
Off-Season Responsibilities: Organize staff training during the off-season (December-March), ensuring high-quality, engaging content is provided.
Professional Development: Research and recommend development opportunities in organic horticulture and client service for Homestead Managers.
Client Care and Gardening Expertise
Client Relationships: Oversee and care for some of the company’s most important gardens.
White-Glove Service: Ensure clients receive personalized, expert-level service catered to their individual garden needs.
Garden Feedback: Conduct weekly visits to at least one garden per HM, providing constructive, solutions-focused feedback.
Off-Season Responsibilities
Inventory Management: Oversee tool and supply inventory in the off-season, ensuring accuracy and proper budgeting for the upcoming year.
Soil Scheduling: Plan and organize soil testing, amendments, and additions, primarily during the off-season (December-March).
Hiring: Assist with recruiting and hiring new Homestead Managers by interviewing, vetting, and conducting trial workdays.
Qualifications
Experience:
5+ years of experience in organic gardening or farming
3+ years of managerial and customer service experience
Skills:
Strong leadership and communication skills
Excellent problem-solving ability
In-depth knowledge of organic gardening practices and client service
Requirements:
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record - required to complete the taks of the jobs getting to clients in company vehicles.
Background check required as our work requires being at clients' homes.
Compensation: Starting at $55,000 per year
Benefits: Company health insurance (after 3 months), 401(k) (after 6 months), 2 weeks vacation, select Federal holidays, and Fridays off in January & February.
Note: Vacation blackout period April through June.
