Job description
The Good Life Center is currently seeking Resident Stewards for our 2024 summer season. Spend your summer living at Forest Farm in Harborside, Maine, the final home of Helen & Scott Nearing. The Nearings were pioneers of the organic gardening movement. Live on their farm, plant in their garden (using Nearing methods), and guide visitors on tours of their property. Residency is mid May – early October.
Resident Stewards duties include:
- Maintaining the property which includes the house, barn, garden, workshop, and outbuildings.
- Helping the Farm Manager with lawn care and systems maintenance.
- Assisting with on-site workshops and Sunday afternoon Speaker Series.
- Time commitments include planting and maintaining the vegetable garden and greenhouse; being available for visitor tours Thursdays – Mondays (1p-5p), 5 hours of additional work each week; attend monthly board meetings; and attend the Common Ground Fair (held in September).
Resident Stewards arrive in mid-May and stay until Indigenous Peoples’ Day (October).
There is a stipend of $4,300 for this summer residency. Hours will be tracked and overtime paid accordingly, should it be necessary.
