Job description
Totem Landscape Services is seeking a Lead Urban Farmer to join and support our Kitchen Garden program in Sonoma, California. The Kitchen Garden program is dedicated to enhancing landscapes with nutritious, year-round edible gardens. We aim to provide tailored solutions for fresh produce enthusiasts looking to deepen their connection to the land through organic growing practices.
We are looking for an experienced and passionate gardener to assist with garden curation, crop rotation, variety selection, seeding, planting, soil enrichment, pest and disease management, and the overall care and maintenance of the edible gardens within our program. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, enthusiastic, and possess a strong work ethic. Comfortable working independently and directly with clients is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Garden Curation: Design, plan, and manage edible garden spaces.
- Crop Rotation & Variety Selection: Oversee and create seasonal planting schedules and layouts, ensuring biodiversity and healthy soil.
- Seeding & Planting: Ensure successful seeding, transplanting, planting and growth of vegetable, herb and flower crops.
- Soil Amending: Enhance soil quality using organic amendments to support plant health.
- Pest & Disease Control: Identify and manage pest issues and diseases using organic methods.
- General Garden Care: Oversee the overall health of the garden, ensuring it thrives and supports the client’s goals.
- Communication: Take detailed notes on the gardens and be able to communicate one on one with clients.
Ideal Qualifications:
- At least 1 year of experience in organic farming with a strong passion particularly for urban farming, growing fresh produce and creating beautiful landscapes.
- Familiarity with growing, maintaining and harvesting vegetable, herb, flower gardens and orchards.
- Knowledge of pests and diseases to identify and treat plants organically and correctly.
- Ability to lift 50lbs and work outside in all weather conditions.
- Willingness to learn with an openness to learning new techniques and expanding gardening knowledge.
- Strong work ethic, dependable, reliable, and able to work independently and within a team.
- Detail oriented and strong organizational skills.
- Valid Driver's license required to travel between work sites via company truck.

Compensation
