We are a small island homestead off the rugged coast of Downeast, Maine. The island has been privately owned for generations by a single extended family who visit seasonally and is governed by a Board of Directors. A year-round caretaking staff is employed to maintain the farm, buildings, equipment, waterfront, and natural resources. We operate a small diverse farm and garden to provide most of the food needs for staff and owners. Our team cares deeply about their work and the land they care for and is resourceful and collaborative.
Job description
Compensation package includes:
$30,000 to $35,000 pay, Year-Round Housing, 2 meals a day (breakfast & lunch), health insurance, vacation and sick time accrual, 401K contribution.
The staff cook prepares two wholesome meals a day for our staff of 4-8 people and maintains organization and inventory of our farm- grown supply of cream, milk,butter, eggs, and frozen pork,beef, lamb and chicken. The cook is also the point person for guest's food needs while they are on-island, both for farm products and groceries.
Primary Responsibilities
Staff related:
- Prepare and serve two meals a day ( breakfast and lunch) for permanent and seasonal Island staff
- Inventory & restock groceries for meal preparation; manage meal budget
- Inventory, track, and monitor usage of farm products, including freezer organization
- Maintain organization and tidiness of kitchen, dining room, walk-in, and storage areas
Resort related:
- Grocery shop for island guests, travel to grocery store with company vehicle twice a week (valid driver’s license required)
- Receive and prepare farm product and garden orders for guests, coordinate deliveries
- Collect recycling from farmhouse and guest houses
Other areas the Cook may assist:
- Garden produce processing
- Assist with garden planning and harvesting
- Other island work that requires a team effort
Requirements
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Experience planning and preparing meals from scratch for small groups on a budget
- Ability to work in a remote and challenging environment with a small team
- Customer service experience preferred
This position is non-exempt, and hours will be tracked, such that those exceeding 40 / week will qualify for overtime pay.
Compensation
this position is: salaried, varies DOE, $30,000.00 - $35,000.00
