We source prime beef, local pork, and proteins of every kind with a focus on whole animal utilization. We operate in-store retail and an e-commerce platform for pre-orders, home delivery, and national shipping.
Job description
We are looking for a Butcher, Meat Cutter, or Butcher Apprentice with at least 3 years of experience in food service. Our retail team is a small crew of less than 10 employees who are all passionate about food & creating a supportive work environment. This position is full-time, and candidates are ideally seeking long term company growth, but at the very least a 1-year commitment.
Position Summary:
Working at Savenor’s Butchery is an excellent opportunity to learn the craft of butchery in an environment of your peers passionate about food. Under the guidance of our Lead Butcher, you will learn whole animal butchery, meat cutting, the display and sale of products, understand food safety, and build your skills in customer service. This role allows you to bolster the success of the meat department and grow Savenor’s legacy of prime meats and specialty foods in our company and community.
Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities:
• Follow direction of Lead Butcher to maintain inventory of meat, seafood, deli, freezer, and poultry cases ensuring freshness, product diversity, accurate pricing, and quality presentation
• Learn whole animal meat cutting of chicken, seafood, pork, lamb, beef, and other game meats
• Prepare Savenor's recipes for house made products like sausages, broths, pates, soups, and other prepared foods
• Study and speak to Savenor’s wide selection of prime meats, seafood, specialty foods, charcuterie, and cheeses
• Follow safety guidance in use of meat slicer, hand tools, and other mechanical food processing equipment
• Follow cleaning & food safety guidelines that meet city, state, and federal cleanliness standards
• Provide excellent customer service: cashier, greet, field incoming phone calls, take orders, and share knowledge
to assist customers in timely and effective manner
• Perform opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned including routine cleaning of retail storefront and back of
house such as sweep, mop, wash dishes, sanitize worktables, coolers, walk-ins, etc.
• Demonstrate strong communication skills and willingness to work as a part of a team and follow direction
• Collaborate with E-Commerce department in meat cutting, inventory management, and order fulfillment
• Receive feedback from Lead Butcher in relation to butchery skills, observation of safety and cleanliness
practices, and worth ethic
Required Education, Competencies & Experience:
• High School Diploma or GED required
• 3+ years of food service experience preferred
• A passion for animal proteins, respect for sustainability, and curiosity to educate oneself and others
• Willingness to work flexible hours including but not limited to opening and closing shifts, weekends, and holidays. Business hours are Tuesday- Friday 11AM-7PM, Saturday 11AM-5PM
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
• Ability to work in refrigerated and freezer walk-in's, customer facing retail, and repeated daily use of stairs! We'll be honest- it's a lot of up & down our stairs.
• Ability to withstand extended periods of standing for a full 8+ hour shift, lift up to 50 pounds
• Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, pulling
