Company description

Skinny Kitty Farms is going into our 10th season of farming in the beautiful Skagit Valley. We sit on 12acres with a mix of veggie production, tree fruits, pasture buffers, and riparian zones. Our primary focus is on market veg and pasture raised broiler chickens. All of which is sold through Seattle Metro markets, where we have built a dedicated and loving customer base.

The primary goal of this farm is to steward this land we love on with care and love. We believe in regenerative farming and are always changing systems to further that goal. Our definition of regenerative is farming within the ecology of the land; take note of what the land is telling us, and leverage that towards profitable enterprises.

While we do not carry an organic certification, we grow organically and use very few amendments or pesticides. Because we sell everything we grow directly to the end consumer, we don’t need the certification to advertise our farm practices. People trust us.

Job description

Primarily duties will be transplanting, weeding, irrigation, occulation tarps, and chicken feeding. Secondary tasks may include seeding, orchard maintenance, or selling at market. It’s our goal to have those tasks covered by other folks, but if you are interested in those parts of the farm, we can work you into mix.

We believe in working with you to find the best schedule and work load for everyone involved. Work loads will shift through the season (see below), and we communicate tasks through a whiteboard and checklists. Each day we go over the tasks, talk about if/how they’ve changed, and when they need to be finished. It’s then your choice as to how/ when you do them (with advice from us whenever you need it of course!)

It’s important to be a self-starter and good at working alone. Most of your day will be solo work. We will check in through the day, and some stuff is team work (occulation tarps and driptape primarily). This position is best for an introvert who loves books-on-tape.

Pay rate is $18-$25/hr DOE with the exception of a mid season raise (based on your ability to master tasks and perform them without supervision) end of season bonus for crew members who do a full season. And free veg and chicken available throughout the season!
May/ June = 20hrs/ week  July-October = 40hrs/ week.  Market staff is paid $200 per market, and $50 driving bonus if you are the one driving the truck (12’ box truck).

Housing is available on-site, rustic solar cabin (basically camping w/ a roof and a fridge), ask if interested

Compensation
