A Single Bite is a nonprofit organization founded by Foster Supply Hospitality. We are dedicated to Feeding and Educating children and their families with Real, Local Food. We believe in a holistic approach to alleviating food insecurity in Sullivan County, New York by presenting programs, exploring partnerships and implementing solutions in our schools and throughout our community. We will continue to support the improved health of Sullivan County while identifying pathways and alliances to solve the food-centric issues that impact the well being and quality of life of our neighbors. And, by operating the Catskills Food Hub, we are an essential part of Sullivan County’s food economy, integrating local food distribution to our core mission. Since March 2020, we have prepared and delivered 170,000 servings - over 700 per week to local families struggling to put healthy food on the table. Working closely with educators, our Real Food Education Program is a four-part, immersive experience that teaches students about making healthy food choices.
Centrally located in Liberty, NY, the goal of A Single Bite is to serve more people in need throughout the region providing nutrition education and equitable access to locally grown, healthy food.
Job description
The Real Food Education Manager plans and delivers the Real Food Education Programs, partnering with school, community representatives and volunteers to deliver programmatic components of Real Food Educational and Real Food, Real Futures. Experience in education, leading workshops, and working with agricultural food systems and nutrition is preferred.
Real Food Education Program Responsibilities
Coordinate ongoing planning and support of introduction and implementation of various program components including:
- Collaborate with the A Single Bite team in planning and execution of the four school-based sessions of the Real Food Education Program and related programs
- Participate in creative, presentation and program development.
- Schedule all Program Sessions – school, farm, lunch and follow-up/refresher.
- Coordinate programmatic components & presentation materials for school program including handout materials, supplies, and food items.
- Organize field trips and other activities for program supporters and participants including related transportation, communications and permissions
- Serve as primary presenter of school sessions
Support student, chef, and presenter needs - Coordinate virtual and physical content for presentations including, “Single Bites” and other educational materials
- Coordinate “bite” production and delivery
Support additional presenters (culinary) - Report on program metrics and anecdotal program activities
- Collect photographs and other report materials
Regularly contribute programmatic material for communications and marketing - Provide technical support as needed
Real Food, Real Futures Program Responsibilities
Real Food, Real Futures Program Responsibilities
Real Food, Real Futures is a multi-year program for Sullivan County students to receive hands-on, skill training in food-related employment and apprenticeship opportunities. The program is designed to cultivate food-centric interests, leadership skills and career or college readiness. The Real Food Education Manager will be responsible for: the development, implementation, oversight and evaluation of this program.
- Developing a comprehensive, multi-year plan and budget for the Real Food, Real Futures program.
- Cultivating and partnering with local entities (farmers, restaurants, food media, food businesses, etc.) to be involved in the program and continuously fostering those relationships.
- Managing the implementation and lifecycle of the program, ensuring successful operation of all components related to the program.
- Evaluating the program by engaging with and surveying providers, participants and partners, and providing thoughtful and thorough feedback and analysis to the ASB team and Board.
- Report on program metrics and anecdotal program activities
- Collect photographs and other report materials
- Regularly contribute programmatic material for communications and marketing
- Provide technical support as needed
Other Responsibilities
- Work with key stakeholders, local partners and schools/vocational schools (i.e. Cornell Cooperative Extension, Sullivan 180, Sullivan BOCES, Hudson Valley Regional Food Banks, etc), in effort to support, promote and strengthen the education programs and offerings.
- Actively participate in local community food security conversations and efforts.
- Support the ASB team, other programs and ad hoc responsibilities.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s Degree from accredited, four-year institution with one to two years related experience and/or training is required or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Classroom and workshop experience preferred. - Nutrition and agricultural food system experience preferred.
Strong organizational skills with consistent follow-through - Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- InDesign, Adobe Illustrator or Canva design programs preferred
- Superior interpersonal skills and ability to work extremely well as part of a team

Compensation
