Company description

Plane Meadow is a small-scale, diversified, and intensive farm located in the heart of Tivoli, NY. We are a production farm that grows delicious, high quality vegetables for wholesale outlets throughout the Hudson Valley. We grow everything from fresh beans, sprouting broccoli, and cherry tomatoes, to forced chicories.

With 1.5 acres in cultivation, we strive to maximize our production, while using cover crops, compost, and organic fertilizers to keep our soil balanced, and healthy from year to year. Although we are not certified organic, we follow all organic practices.

The farm is part of an estate owned by the late artist Brice Marden and his wife Helen Marden. Originally started to provide The Corner at Hotel Tivoli (another Marden enterprise) with produce, we have expanded to collaborate with a number of high end, local restaurants. Including the following establishments:  Chleo, Stissing House, and Gaskin’s as well as Montgomery Place and Talbott & Arding.

Job description

Being a part of the Plane Meadow team offers a wide range of experience as everyone is involved with all aspects of production, including seed starting and transplanting, as well as high tunnel and field work.

We are keen to provide everyone with the opportunity to grow into more specific responsibilities as the season progresses. Given our small scale our days are a mix of hand and tractor work, as well as a medley of team and solo projects.

While we are a production farm, we strive to promote work-life balance for all team members, and are eager to work with people who bring a range of experiences and interests to the table.

At our farm, clear communication is important as it not only ensures good work flow, but as it helps us all get to know each other as farmers and individuals.

Our ideal candidate(s) is:

  • eager to be a part of a team of hard working and dedicated co-workers
  • passionate about food and farming
  • works hard, and is excited to learn and ask questions
  • should take direction well and work diligently
  • be able to perform physically intensive, and repetitive tasks
  • is punctual and prepared to work in a range of weather conditions
  • has one or more seasons of farm experience

Being able to do these things with a positive attitude or a sense of humor helps lighten the load.

While one or more years of farming experience is ideal, we strongly encourage folks with less experience to reach out.

Additionally, candidates with experience in food and farm adjacent industries are invited to apply.

Hours fluctuate seasonally, ranging from 35-50hrs, with occasional weekend chores.  Compensation ranges from $18-22/hour, depending on experience, plus paid time off. Returning employees are given annual raises as well as an end of year bonus.

Given our rural location, all candidates must have a reliable way to get themselves to and from the farm each day. We are unable to offer housing.

Compensation

this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $18.00 - $22.00
