POSITION SUMMARY

The Center for an Agricultural Economy (CAE), based in Hardwick, VT, seeks a Facilities Coordinator who will be responsible for the daily upkeep, physical safety, and preventative maintenance of CAE buildings, equipment, and property. This critical position will support the physical infrastructure and grounds for the Vermont Food Venture Center (VFVC), and the Food Hub. The Facilities Coordinator will be part of the “on-call” response team when issues arise that impact critical operations, and will work collaboratively with CAE staff to proactively address facility needs, sanitation, and safety regulations.


JOB DETAILS 

Position: Facilities Coordinator 

Reports to: Executive Director

Schedule: full-time, 40 hrs/week Monday-Friday (occasional evening or weekend hours)

Compensation: Pay range of $25.00-27.00/hour , non exempt

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Physical Site Management VFVC and Food Hub 40%

Update and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all equipment, building systems and pest control for VFVC and Food Hub
Maintain excellent records, preventative maintenance schedules, and documentation of critical tasks and procedures completed 
Work to maintain food safety requirements or other regulatory compliance requirements
VFVC Warehouse 40%

Clean and maintain the VFVC warehouse in an orderly manner
Organize pallets in the VFVC on a daily basis to ensure flow of food and people operate efficiently 
Work collaboratively with CAE staff to ensure CAE physical sites comply with all state and federal regulations and maintain standards for required certifications
Administrative Responsibilities 10%

Obtain bids, estimates, and details related to managing infrastructure preventive maintenance 
Follow facilities budget provided and identify necessary items to include in annual budgets for facilities and grounds upkeep 
Work collaboratively with CAE staff to find efficiencies and solutions to physical site challenges. 
Additional Responsibilities: 10%

Assist in Just Cut kitchen if an urgent situation requires this
Coordinate all exterior grounds maintenance (ie: snow plowing, sanding, mowing) 
Serve on the CAE Safety Committee to assist with all safety and risk management work
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

Comfort with standard office equipment and software systems (Microsoft Office, Google Suite)
Ability to be “on call” and respond in person to building, refrigeration or any significant event that may endanger products, people or the physical site
Familiarity with warehouse environments, HVAC, electrical, plumbing and building systems
Ability to perform routine maintenance
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Coordination experience in scheduling jobs, contractors, estimates, and timelines
Ability to work independently and as part of a team under changing circumstances
Physical Demands/lifting requirements:

Moderate to vigorous physical labor (lifting/pushing/pulling up to and >50 lbs with some equipment assistance)
Manually moving product with a hand truck up and down a ramp
Operating a pallet jack, electrical walkie, forklift
High level of safety awareness and detail orientation 
Work in cooler, freezer, warehouse and outdoor settings in all weather conditions
Mental demands: 

High level of organization and attention to detail
Ability to prioritize complex and competing demands
Ability to communicate well under pressure both orally and in writing 
Able to think critically and exercise sound judgment when making decisions

HIRING PROCESS

A hiring team of CAE staff will lead the process. Selected candidates will have an initial phone interview, which may be followed by an interview and tour of CAE spaces.
