A family company since 1987, VOS Selections was founded by Victor Owen Schwartz. Working alongside his mother Shirley, a fearless cook and early acolyte of Julia Child who instilled in him a love for fabulous food and fine wines, Victor’s goal was to create a different kind of import company from what existed at the time; not corporate nor hierarchical, in which everyone equally pulls in the same direction. Since 2019, Victor has been joined by his daughter, Chloë Syrah Schwartz, whose own experiences making wine and working in France have brought exciting, fresh ideas to the VOS Portfolio.

It all started when Victor moved to France in 1987 to pursue his dream of bringing artisanal wines from off-the-beaten-path appellations to the New York market. While there he absorbed the philosophy of the family vignerons he was meeting: great wine can only be made on a small, human scale working close to nature. Even though Wine Organics were in their infancy at this time, it became obvious that the best farmers were working with minimal inputs and eschewing chemical additives. Victor’s palate drove him to find creative wines from new and unexpected places, always following the quality of the terroir, not the fame of the region. This approach led the VOS Selections portfolio to new and cutting edge regions and winemakers, many of which eventually became famous in their own right. The search continues today as the world of Wine, Spirits, Sakes and NA continues to expand.

Job description

VOS Selections is a cutting edge importer/distributor of Wines, Spirits, Sakes and Non-Alcoholic beverages. A family company now in its third generation, we seek out the best family farmers, winemakers and distillers; the focus is always on the people behind the product. We are looking for those with a passion for superior, artisanal drinks and their connection to the world of fine cuisine. Applicants must be great at connecting with people, have a basic knowledge of wine, and are willing to work hard to build their business in an entrepreneurial environment. If you have the passion, we can train and educate you. The areas open are New York City and the Hudson Valley, full time is preferred but we will consider part time with a minimum 20 hours/week commitment. The salary range for this position reflects the variation of our standard base salary + commission + bonus structure.

this position is: salaried, varies DOE, $35,000.00 - $100,000.00
