Founded in 2009, the Chef Ann Foundation (CAF) works to ensure that all children have equal access to fresh, healthy, and delicious food, providing them the foundation to thrive and meet their true potential. To that end, CAF provides school food professionals with the resources, funding, and support they need to provide cook-from-scratch meals that support the health of children and our planet. To date, CAF has reached over 14,000 schools and over 3.4 million children in all 50 states.
The Chef Ann Foundation is seeking an experienced Managing Director of Development to refine and lead execution of its annual fundraising strategy, diversification of CAF’s funding sources, growth of its support base, and engagement of its stakeholders. A successful candidate will be comfortable soliciting major donors, family foundations, state and federal grant opportunities, and developing partnership initiatives.
This position will report to the Chief Strategy Officer and supervise the Senior Government Funding Specialist, Director of Individual Giving, Senior Foundation and Development Coordinator, Development Associate, as well as contracted development support.

Job description
- Key Responsibilities:
Optimize and lead CAF’s comprehensive annual fundraising and prospecting strategy
Collaborate with Marketing to create donor and funding communications, including the planning and management of fundraising campaigns
Oversee the grants program, manage submission timelines, develop proposals and budgets, ensure compliance and reporting, and coordinate grant writing and all grant reports
Cultivate existing relationships while identifying new prospects among individuals, family foundations, corporations, and government entities
Create new funding opportunities to support both current and new programs
Strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, both existing and new
Supervise a development team of four professionals and others as necessary
Provide monthly reports and regularly engage with the CEO, Founder and the Board of Directors
Ensure accurate reporting for all funders and partners, oversee Quarterly Impact Report
Manage the development budget and reconcile monthly financial reports
Exhibit a thorough understanding of and enthusiasm for CAF's mission
Maintain a strong working knowledge of the organization’s history and present-day initiatives
- Qualifications & Skills:
8+ years of experience in nonprofit development with a proven track record in fundraising; CFRE preferred.
3+ years of experience in executive leadership and supervision
Bachelor’s degree required
High-level strategic thinking and planning; ability to advise stakeholders and solicit major gifts
Strong presence who will inspire, influence, and build credibility with donors, leadership, and staff
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills; ability to prepare and present well-developed materials
Flexible thinker; inclination towards innovation, learning, and development
Well-organized; ability to work virtually, independently, collaboratively and confidentially
Ability to travel approximately 20% time
Passion for food systems, a strong interest in youth wellness, and commitment to school lunch reform preferred
MS Office and GSuite proficiency required; Familiarity with Salesforce or other leading development CRM platforms, resources, and tools
- Compensation Range:
$130,000 - $155,000
