Job description
The Assistant General Manager is responsible for overseeing all taproom operations. This includes but is not limited to: providing excellent customer service to all guests, supervising the taproom manager and taproom staff, assisting with employee training, daily maintenance of the taproom and brewery, and assisting the GM with private events and programming. This role will also be a support person and collaborator for our new start-up food truck Gather at Lasting Joy Brewery. They are responsible for supporting, creating, and fostering a strong team culture and improving policies and procedures as needed to continually run day-to-day operations and exceed guest expectations. They are expected to uphold the company culture at all times. This person will be the main point of contact for employees and customers when the GM or other senior leadership is unavailable.
The ideal candidate for this position has experience in a fast-paced hospitality environment with a dedication to excellent customer service. This person should be adept at providing a seamless customer experience, and have the ability to meet the needs of guests at events ranging from Friday trivia nights to formal rehearsal dinners. This position is a hybrid administrative office role and FOH floor management role. The ideal candidate is comfortable with a range of software including but not limited to: Google Suite, Excel, Square, Slack, and Airtable. The Assistant General Manager will be responsible for helping our close knit FOH team to operate cohesively, and to grow together alongside the business.
This position will require evening, weekend, and special event and holiday availability.
Job Responsibilities
Operational
- Ensure a smooth FOH operation at all times
- Serve guests at the bar, lead and participate in daily set up, breakdown, and cleaning of the taproom and brewery
- Opening and closing the taproom and managing EOD service close-out, Square reports, and cash drawerS
- Ensure the staff is completing all standard operating procedures for opening and closing
- Provide excellent, generous, and welcoming customer service and ensure taproom associates are executing a high level of service to all customers
- Collect, evaluate, and respond to guest feedback as needed
- Assist in establishing systems/ policies /procedures contributing to the growth and profitability of the business
- Assist in recruiting new FOH staff and execute on-boarding and off-boarding procedures
- Maintain a fair and safe work environment free of harassment, discrimination, and retaliation
- Meet regularly with the Management Team to foster growth within the business
- Develop and implement additional FOH training programs focused on service, beer, and other aspects of hospitality and food & beverage service
- Schedule and execute additional cleaning work to ensure taproom upkeep is consistent during opening shifts
- Oversee monthly inventory management for all FOH items and update and maintain in Square
- Perform daily pre-shift with taproom employees
- Assist with and execute regular staff trainings and tastings
- Assist with creating, implementing and maintaining SOPs
- Assist with scheduling of taproom staff
- Collaborate with FOH staff to develop and grow our cocktail/bar program
- Assist with managing incident reporting and handling conflicts and situations with staff and/or guests during hours of operation
Administrative
- Monthly FOH inventory
- Answer emails and phone calls
- Assist with scheduling maintenance repairs
- Keep business hours up to date on website and social media, Google Maps, Apple Maps, and Yelp
- Keep the Facebook page up to date with current events
- Help implement and manage signups and email collections
Special Events & Programming
- Assist in the management of scheduling vendors and additional programming and help keep the calendar up to date
- Help ensure that 3rd party vendors are respecting our space and doing a thorough job of cleaning up after themselves and follow LJB’s policies and procedures
- Assist with collecting COIs and Health Department documents from all vendors and store in database
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of 2 years of hospitality management experience
- Passionate about hospitality and cultivating an inclusive taproom experience
- A willingness to be a part of a growing small business that is opening a food truck in 2025
- Ability to handle fast-paced, high-pressure situations
- Ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for long periods of time
- Ability to lift, push, and pull 50 pounds
- Ability to push, pull, and move full kegs (approximately 160 pounds) with assistance
- Ability to work flexible days and hours
- Ability to be resourceful and problem-solving
- Ability to be solutions-oriented and think proactively to diffuse potential problems
- Creative, seeking new ideas and approaches to helping Lasting Joy Brewery grow as a brand
- Highly organized; developed systems for staffing, taproom upkeep, inventory tracking, etc.
