Job description
This is a full-time position at 40 hours per week. This position is based in Austin, TX and requires travel, up to 30% of time, throughout the state of Texas. This is a hybrid position with days worked from home and in the office environment.
The Farm Direct Specialist recruits and supports farm direct firms (e.g., farmers’ markets, farm stands, or mobile markets) for SFC’s nutrition incentive program, Double Up Food Bucks Texas (DUTX). The Specialist develops expertise in SNAP and Double Up solutions for farmers’ markets and supports and advises farm direct firms in the DUTX network on program adoption. The Specialist manages the onboarding, contracting, data, reporting, and compliance processes for farm direct firms and provides ongoing technical assistance to existing firms. The Specialist works with statewide farm direct partners both online and in person, with regular travel to sites across the state. The Specialist works with the Food Access Manager, the Senior Director of Food Access and Education, and other SFC staff to further the goals of DUFBTX and achieve grant deliverables.
Job Duties:
· Develop and maintain expertise in SNAP and DUFB solutions for farmers’ markets
· In alignment with strategic goals, recruit and onboard new farm direct partners into the DUFBTX network, including outreach and contracting
· Ensure regular and accurate invoice and data submission by farm direct partners; facilitate other evaluation activities with farm direct partners
· Ensure Produce Path data entry by partners is accurate, complete, and on-time; review and correct Produce Path data as needed
· Support Food Access Manager and Senior Data Specialist to regularly update farm direct outcomes data and track expenses
· In coordination with communications and community engagement teams, provide technical assistance to new and existing DUFBTX farm direct partners, including marketing, program promotion, branding, and design guides, templates, and resources using the DUTX tool kit
· Coordinate and conduct site visits to farm direct sites across the state for compliance monitoring, and on-site technical assistance
· Support the continued development of DUFBTX Toolkit materials, informed by interactions with farm-direct site managers and staff
· In collaboration with the Farm Viability team, grow and manage a statewide network of farmers’ market contacts, including mobile markets, farm stands, and farm stores
· Facilitate regular meetings of the DUFBTX farm direct community of practice
About you:
You have working knowledge of and experience with farmers’ markets and are skilled in making and nourishing relationships with a variety of stakeholders. You are passionate about making high quality produce more affordable and are interested in supporting local agriculture. You have a track record of managing projects on your own and delivering great results on time. You are confident engaging with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds. You can create a detailed plan but know how to be flexible and creative if the situation calls for it. You understand the need to address complex social issues through an equity and justice lens.
You will also bring the following expertise and demonstrated capacity in:
· 1-2 years of experience in project management required, preferably in a nonprofit environment
· Working knowledge of and experience with farmers’ markets required
· Experience providing training or technical assistance and developing training materials
· Technical knowledge of SNAP and nutrition incentive solutions for farmers’ markets preferred
· Knowledge of and/or experience with federal nutrition benefits programs, nutrition incentive programs, local food systems, and/or food access preferred
· Strong written/oral communication skills required
· Strong relationship management skills required
· Experience with MS Office applications, including Excel and Word required
· Experience with data entry, analysis, and reporting preferred
· Demonstrated track record of independently managing project timelines and deliverables required
· Demonstrated ability to collaborate with internal and external partners to advance goals required
· Experience working in low-income and multi-cultural settings a plus
· Lived experience with the communities SFC serves a plus
Sustainable Food Center offers an excellent work environment, competitive salaries, full coverage health insurance, 401k matching, generous time off and a flexible schedule. The salary range for this position is $46,000 - $50,000. Starting salary will be influenced by applicant’s qualifications and budget considerations. The position is available starting Jan. 16, 2025.
