Position Overview: SNACC is seeking a dedicated and passionate Food Educator & Chef Instructor to join our team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in our mission to provide nutritious meals and food education to under-resourced youth (K-12). This position involves leading in-school food education curriculum during school days and additional evening programming on a contract basis throughout the 2024-2025 school year, starting in the Fall.

Commitment and responsibilities:

  • In-School Programming: Lead engaging food education sessions in schools, in-person 1-2 times a week, typically during daytime hours (8am-3pm) from Fall through Spring.
  • Stepping in to support our virtual Evening Programming on occasion
  • Occasional In person Field Trips (3pm-6:30pm)
  • Please Note: This is a part-time, contract-based, hourly position. It does not constitute full-time employment.
    Responsibilities:
  • In-School Programming (In-person):
    Lead fun interactive food education sessions in schools, engaging students in hands-on cooking and nutrition lessons.
    Implement the SNACC food education curriculum that aligns with DOE educational standards and promotes healthy eating habits.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students.
  • Procure and prepare all necessary supplies and groceries for each session, with costs covered by SNACC.
  • Implement the SNACC food education curriculum.
  • Ensure all sessions run smoothly and on schedule.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive environment for all participants.
  • Attend periodic meetings with the Executive Director and Director of Culinary Operations to discuss progress and feedback.
  • Other related assignments as necessary.

Required Qualifications: Bilingual English/Spanish
Expertise in culinary arts or a related relevant field.

  • Passion for being a change-maker in the community.
  • Passion for education, learning, and youth development.
  • Located in  Bronx or Harlem NYC.
  • Excellent communication skills and enthusiasm for working with others.
  • Knowledge of nutrition and healthy eating habits.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Background check required.

Compensation

this position is: hourly, $20/hr +
