Beginning Farmer Training:
Apprenticeships provide on-farm job training and mentorship in regenerative agriculture for beginning farmers in partnership with commercial host farms.
Beginning Farmer Educational Event Series (BFEES) delivers educational workshops and farm tours for aspiring farmers on climate-smart agriculture for aspiring farmers.
Regenerative Farming Fellowship provides entry-level job training in regenerative agriculture and reduces food insecurity in collaboration with regional nonprofit partners.
Future Farms Programming:
Farm Launch helps a cohort of beginning farmers and ranchers write professional business plans and develop the business skills to launch their own agricultural operations.
Changing Hands Workshops connect new and retiring farmers with education and networking to support equitable farmland transfer with a focus on intergenerational networking.
Collaborative Farming Initiative educates and supports farmers interested in pursuing collective models of farming.
1-on-1 Technical Assistance provides RFC program graduates and other beginning farmers with 1:1 TA, coaching, and resource referral to help them achieve their agricultural goals.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Initiatives
Future Farmer Fund provides scholarships for aspiring farmers from underserved / marginalized identities to participate in RFC programming.
Equity-Informed Employer Training & TA provide one-on-one technical assistance, employer workshops, and racial equity training to farmers and ranchers to reduce employment barriers for socially disadvantaged beginning farmers and ranchers.
Oregon Farm & Ranch Equity and Anti-racism Project (OFREAP) is
a self-directed online educational opportunity for Oregon farmers, ranchers, and agricultural service providers to learn about, address, and dismantle racism within the food and farm systems and beyond.
Advocacy for federal and state-wide policies that support increased equity in the farmer/rancher and farmworker communities.
Job description
We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Outreach Coordinator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, experience in content creation, and a proven ability to engage diverse audiences. This role focuses on enhancing our outreach efforts through community engagement initiatives, social media, and e-newsletters. Bilingual English / Spanish is required.
This position will focus on three main areas of outreach and relationship building: 1) with Latine/BIPOC-owned/managed Oregon farms with the goal of adding additional BIPOC Apprenticeship Host Farms; 2) with Latine/BIPOC aspiring farmers, with the goal of outreach for RFC’s Beginning Farmer Training Programs; 3) with Latine/BIPOC Oregon farmers to connect to services and resources provided by USDA and other agricultural service providers.
Key Responsibilities:
Community Engagement:
- Build and maintain relationships with community organizations and stakeholders, including farmers.
- Organize, promote, and implement outreach events and initiatives.
- Gather feedback from the community to inform future programming and outreach strategies.
- Represent RFC at community events and other outreach opportunities.
Social Media Content Creation and Management:
- Develop and execute social media strategies to increase engagement and outreach.
- Collaborate with team members to create, schedule, and post compelling content across various platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).
- Monitor social media trends and analytics to improve outreach efforts.
E-Newsletter Content Creation and Management:
- Design and write engaging content for monthly e-newsletters.
- Collaborate with team members to gather information and updates for newsletter distribution.
- Track and analyze newsletter performance metrics to optimize future editions.
Bilingual Communication:
- Produce and translate promotional content in Spanish to ensure accessibility for Spanish-speaking audiences.
- Serve as a point of contact for Spanish-speaking community members, providing information and support.
Qualifications:
Bilingual in Spanish and English
Proven experience in social media management and content creation
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Basic understanding of social justice concepts
Preferred Skills:
Experience in community outreach or non-profit settings
Knowledge of graphic design tools (e.g., Canva)
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Familiarity with Oregon’s food systems
Working Conditions
The Outreach Coordinator can expect a flexible working schedule that includes some evenings and weekends. Requires approximately 20 hours/week.
All staff work remotely. A good internet connection is necessary. A home office is highly recommended as no office is provided.
Requires occasional state-wide travel (travel reimbursements provided).
Must confirm monthly schedule with supervisor.
Approximate activity breakdown by percentage of time: 60% working independently, 30% in meetings, 10% traveling for events or activities.
