Job Summary

The Community Engagement Coordinator with the Pacific Coast Farmers’ Market Association, working under the direction of the Director of Operations, plans, develops and implements fun, educational, and engaging events in PCFMA’s farmers markets and at community sites in the communities served by PCFMA. The Community Engagement Coordinator leads a team of one or more Community Engagement Specialists who assist with event planning, coordination and implementation. (Approximately 80% FTE)

 

The Community Engagement Coordinator recruits and manages volunteers who will assist at PCFMA events and supports student internships at PCFMA to help develop the next generation of food and farming advocates. (Approximately 12% FTE)

 

The Community Engagement Coordinator works to deepen PCFMA’s engagement within the communities it serves by identifying aligned organizations and connecting those potential allies with members of PCFMA’s Operations Team and Marketing Team. The Community Engagement Coordinator also assists in identifying and pursuing grant and sponsorship funds to support PCFMA’s mission and to support PCFMA’s sister organization, California Food Education*. (Approximately 8% FTE)

 

Essential Functions

·       Develop and implement interactive educational event at PCFMA’s farmers markets, including staffing events as needed

·       Recruit, hire, coordinate and supervise direct reports responsible for staffing events

·       Recruit, engage, and manage volunteers to support PCFMA’s farmers markets, PCFMA events, and other PCFMA programs that increase local food access and support community engagement

·       Develop and maintain relationships with public and private social service agencies and nonprofits that serve residents in the communities in which PCFMA operates farmers markets

·       Coordinate with staff leaders from PCFMA’s Operations Team, Finance and Administration Team, and Marketing & Promotions Team to successfully implement workplans for grant-funded projects

·       Identify potential grant opportunities and assist in the development of grant proposals and grant budgets

·       Working with PCFMA’s Director of Finance and Administration, assist in the tracking of grant-funded project budgets

·       Track success of community engagement efforts in Salesforce by recording volunteer hours, event impact, grant-funded project outcomes, etc.

·       Assist in community outreach by representing the organization at community events, identifying community groups and distributing promotional materials

·       Perform other duties as assigned

 

Requirements

·       Strong interpersonal and communication skills

·       Interest in Certified Farmers' Markets or California agriculture

·       Previous experience with event planning and implementation

·       Previous experience working with children (preferred)

·       Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, and Salesforce (preferred)

·       Ability to keep work organized and complete tasks in a timely manner

·       Ability to communicate with farmers market customers verbally and in writing in a language other than English, such as Spanish or Mandarin (preferred)

·       Thrives in a team-environment

·       Detail-oriented

·       Willingness to show initiative and creativity 

 

Physical Requirements

·       This position requires the employee to work in an office environment and outside in all weather conditions

·       This position requires the employee to interact with farmers and other vendors, persons of various socio‐economic backgrounds, and the general public

·       This position requires the employee to be able to lift up to 50 pounds of equipment in and out a vehicle, to lift equipment off the ground up to 50 pounds, and to be able to lift items over his/her head up to 20 pounds

·       This position requires weekend work and may require early morning work or late evening work

·       This position requires use of a personal vehicle to transport necessary items for work and will be reimbursed for mileage at the federal rate.


 

Additional Requirements

·       This position requires the employee to complete a Background Check/Livescan as required under California state law (AB 506) for those having direct contact with children.

 

Compensation

·       This is a full-time, year-round, exempt position.

·       Full-time employees with PCFMA are eligible for enrollment in an employer-paid health insurance plan and a 401(k)-retirement plan with employer-matching contributions, subject to waiting periods and vesting.

·       Salary Range: $68,640 to $71,500 annually

 

Note

This position is partially funded by a grant to PCFMA from the California Department of Food and Agriculture for the period of November 1, 2024, to June 30, 2027. Employment after June 30, 2027, may be dependent upon the receipt of additional grant funding. 

 

 

*California Food Education (FoodEd) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that is organized as a subsidiary of the Pacific Coast Farmers’ Market Association. The mission of FoodEd is to educate California consumers on the importance of incorporating locally-grown, seasonal fruits and vegetables into their diets and how a diet rich in local healthy foods supports their personal health as well as a sustainable local food system.
