Company description
River Whey Creamery is a fast growing artisanal cheesemaking operation in Schertz, Texas. We are just on the outskirts of San Antonio which has a blossoming food culture. Our company currently has seven employees, so we all wear many hats. Hours are somewhat flexible, although we live and die by the timing of the cheese makes and the incoming orders.
We specialize in raw milk, small batch, cave aged cheeses. Yes, we have a cave! We are the only cow's milk artisanal cheesemakers within 50 miles of San Antonio. We have a strong partnership with our dairy farm - Four E Dairy of Moulton, Texas. We drive to the farm every week to get our raw milk.
Our cheeses are available at Whole Foods and HEB Central Market stores and many other fine specialty food retailers across Texas and beyond.
Job description
River Whey Creamery began making cheese in 2014 and we specialize in raw milk, cave-aged cheeses. We are looking for a hard working employee who can grow with our company. We need you to be able to work flexible hours including weekends. You will learn all the ins and outs of our business from shipping to cave aging practices to packaging to selling. This is not a cheesemaking job - this job is in the Pack & Ship department (distribution facility). There are a thousand moving parts in a small business, so you must be willing to learn and to follow all the sanitation and dairy guidelines. We will provide extensive training. This is a great place to grow.
This position has the potential to become full-time. We offer benefits to all employees like paid time off, a tech stipend to cover the use of your cell phone, opportunities to grow, and free cheese! Full-time employees also get a stipend for health insurance.
If you have ever wanted a really cool job that you love to tell people about, this is the place. We are very proud of what we do and we hope to find just that right person who will love it as much as we do. Integrity is very important to us. We use raw jersey cow's milk that we pick up from our farmers every week. Connecting with the land and the people is what makes our company run. And the cheese is awesome too!
Candidates must be able to lift 50 pounds and be able to drive a van for deliveries and milk runs to the farm. A Commercial Drivers License not required as these are local deliveries and pick ups - no long haul. Must have availability on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
