Job description

-We are seeking two full time staff members with at least one year of farm experience to focus on helping us with our Organic vegetable operation. We grow 1.5 acres of mixed vegetables and have two 30 x 96 high tunnels that we utilize year round.   We grow all of our own starts in a 48 x 12 greenhouse. We consider ourselves a traditional farm so we raise a small herd of cows, pigs, a few hundred eggs layers and broilers in season. In addition to the above, we have a cut flower garden, one acre apple and peach orchard, a half acre of blueberry bushes and carry other local farms value added products in our store.

-Our goal is to supply all the farm products needed in our on farm store. The two staff members would work with the farm manager/owner to produce our farm products and then work together in the Farm store. One employee would be assigned to the store on the weekends and would help with farming when we do not have store customers.

-Your role will vary throughout the season but your primary focus will be seeding, field prep, planting, irrigation, weeding, cultivation, and harvesting crops and packing. This position is designed for someone with prior knowledge of organic farming practices. Experience operating a tractor and farm implements is a plus. We utilize a 40 HP tractor and a BCS walk behind tractor. However, we will train if a strong desire for farming is present.

-Working on an active farm is very physically demanding. Employees are required to lift 50 pound feed or fertilizer bags. We work outdoors in all weather conditions and the staff member should have appropriate clothing and an understanding of the conditions.

-The position is designed for a May through October commitment. Hours vary but are primarily 9-6 with Tuesday and Wednesdays off from work. Compensation is $16.00-$17.00 an hour depending on experience. We operate as a farm family so farm provided meals will be provided at times. On farm housing is possible and can be discussed.
