Liberty Tree Farm is a small, family-run produce farm and market garden in Louisa County, Virginia. We are dedicated to a mission of sustainability, using all organic practices and minimizing food waste through value adding. The naturally grown produce we raise on the six acres currently in production is distributed to consumers via farmers markets in Richmond and other outlets all over central Virginia.

Job description

We are looking for a candidate with the desire to learn more about vegetable production to join our team full time. Some experience preferred but not required. As our operation continues to expand, we need more hands to get everything planted, picked, and processed. THIS IS A YEAR-ROUND POSITION—we grow straight through the winter, both outside and in a high tunnel. Primary duties include:

• Seeding, transplanting, harvesting, washing, and packing produce
• Weeding and maintaining farm plots
• Value-adding produce (making pesto from our greens/herbs, smoking and fire roasting our peppers, etc)
• Selling products at farmers markets

 

Our ideal candidate:

• Some experience preferred but not required
• Able to take direction and work efficiently
• Able to do hard, physical work outside in all weather
• Able to work 1-2 Saturdays per month (for farmers markets), farmers market experience not required, but a plus
• LGBT friendly

Compensation

this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
