A Meaningful Purpose, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit organization founded in 2020 to address the needs of food insecurity, soil regeneration, and community inclusiveness in Atlantic County, NJ.  This mission is carried out at the historic Reed's Farm, continuing a legacy of local food production in the region.  The farm operates year-round utilizing organic and regenerative practices, hosts a sanctuary for farm animals, and provides educational and vocational programming to local schools and organizations with a focus on individuals with cognitive disabilities.  We aim to provide a community hub that inspires all who gather here to engage with nature and celebrate its healing capabilities.

Job description

General Description of the Position:

The Executive Director is the primary mission-keeper of Reed’s Farm who is able to balance the strong values of social impact and operational efficiency. This role preserves and strengthens the farm's excellent image to all internal stakeholders, donors, and industry professionals. The Executive Director will oversee all staff and have high-level management of activities and programming of the whole organization, including agricultural and land stewardship activities, development of the Market/Kitchen as a funding source, and school and community programs/events. Working in conjunction with dedicated departmental directors, the Executive Director will coordinate all departmental directors focusing on the cohesion of the whole organization and keeping it oriented around the mission. This position should be willing to work alongside all departments to understand how each team works and build relationships with each staff member. This position requires broad knowledge in organic/regenerative agriculture, planning and hosting events, fundraising and grants, strategic and financial planning, leadership and management, special needs programming, and local economic development. This is a full-time, year-round, on-site position. 

Required Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of relevant experience

  • Ability to focus attention on key areas
  • Strong interpersonal communication and public speaking skills

  • Leadership and management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in business administration, nonprofit management, agroecology, agriculture, environmental science, or a related field
  • Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC)
  • Experience in social enterprise
  • Experience leading and managing a staff of over 20 people
  • Hands-on agriculture experience

Key Responsibilities:  

Leadership & Strategy:  

  • Lead the development and implementation of the organization’s strategy
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the organization
  • Work with the Board of Directors to fulfill the organization’s mission
  • Facilitates meetings with department directors

Fundraising & Financial Management:

  • Develop and execute fundraising strategies
  • Oversee the financial health of the organization, including budgeting, financial reporting, and audits
  • Work directly with the Fundraising Assistant and oversee project progress

Program Management:

  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality programs
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness  

Board Governance:  

  • Work with the Board to ensure effective governance
  • Attend and participate in all board meetings
  • Community Engagement & Public Relations:  
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, donors, and other stakeholders
  • Represent the organization at public events and in the media

Operational Oversight:  

  • Works closely with Farm Director and other department heads to oversee day-to-day operations, including human resources, compliance, and risk management
  • Ensure the organization’s operations align with its strategic goals
  • Supported by HR and Admin Director

Compensation and Benefits:

  • $95-100k depending on experience
  • Paid vacation and sick time; full healthcare benefits after three months
  • Free produce from the farm and discounts on products in the farm market

Compensation

this position is: salaried, 75k-100k
