Company description
Reclamation Foods is reclaiming our collective cultural wisdom around food - to us, that means restoring healthy soils and making use of the whole animal to nourish our community through traditional foods. Our mission is to build a climate-positive food system that promotes regenerative agriculture, regional farming and processing, and whole-animal nutrition to produce real, wholesome foods rooted in culture.
I founded this company after leaving tech to apprentice on a regenerative livestock farm. From there, I learned how rare it was in America to use the whole animal. In fact, almost half of a cow and a third of a pig are considered "inedible," according to the USDA. That's a lot we're leaving on the table, including incredible nutrition for our communities and a missed revenue opportunity for our small farmers and processors. More about our founding story here: https://reclamationfoods.com/pages/about
So about a year ago, I started buying bones from local farmers to make the Korean-style broth I grew up on. From pop-up dinners to selling out farmers markets, the concept has grown and evolved. We are now launching shelf stable jars of our unseasoned broth, in beef and pork flavors. We'll continue selling them at farmers markets as we look to launch our ecommerce business (and fulfill the $20K+ in preorders we've already received) and start supplying some local retailers that have reached out wanting to carry our product.
This year, we will be part of the Union Square Holiday Market, one of the largest holiday markets in the world, drawing crowds of 10k+ people every day from November to December. We are setting up a Korean Broth Bar to introduce creative ways of using our signature Korean bone broth. In addition to wholesome sipping broths, we are incredibly excited to serve up a limited menu of broth-based lattes, including a matcha latte, turmeric latte, and a salted honey peppermint hot cocoa (all made with broth!).
In addition to building out a CPG brand to build towards a climate-positive food system, we're also exploring a brick and mortar concept that will be similar to the Korean Broth Bar we're setting up at the holiday market. If things go well, there may be additional long-term growth opportunities related to this business unit.
