Job description
Our central business is a Retreat Center, for which our biodynamic garden, native landscaping and fruit orchards are core. Equally important are our restorations of native dryland forests to reduce silt-laden-runoff onto Molokai’s coral reef, and conservation of upland forests.
To fulfill our goals, this position must participate in envisioning the long-term, climate-adapted landscape of all grounds and gardens, design and help implement landscaping, maintain and increase nursery capacity, both in native and non-native plant stock, care and pruning of orchards, and manage a small team of staff, in concert with our Ranch Manager. While this is a Department head with oversight, we do expect a hands-on approach to the work. Experience in seed- collecting, nursery propagation and orchard care, and some knowledge of native plants and our bioregion is important. Applicants with experience in Biodynamic practices preferred.
We expect applicants to have a passion for the native flora of Hawaii, a problem-solving attitude, and a personable manner with coworkers and guests. We welcome self-motivated applicants with respect for local customs and traditions and the social skills to work well as part of a diverse team in a remote location. This job is highly physical, and we ask that you take this into account and consider any potential limitations before applying.
