Job description
The responsibilities of the Line Chefs are unique at the Calhoun School. Along with the Executive Chef, the Line Chefs rotate the overall responsibility for designing and
executing a weekly menu for the school’s lunches. Each Line Chef is given creative responsibility for designing a menu that fits into the school’s overall lunch initiative. The
Line Chefs also rotate through various other tasks, such as creating dishes for the salad bar; preparing meals; ordering food and other supplies; planning special events; serving
the 600+ Calhoun students, teachers and staff in the school’s Cafeteria at 81 Street, and maintaining the roof garden, which is used to give students a better knowledge of how food is grown.
The Line Chefs also help the Head Chef at the lower school location on 85th Street and West End when needed. One day a week, each Line Chef arrives at the kitchen half an hour early to accept deliveries and to make breakfast muffins and oatmeal for a self-service breakfast.
Qualifications:
- Culinary Education from an accredited institution. Experience cooking for large numbers.
- Menu planning and food cost control.
- Must be acquainted with various computer software such as Excel and Word.
- Experience teaching young teenage kids how to cook would be a helpful skill.
- Need to be patient and kind to
kids, our customers, and must love kids.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $20/hr +
