Job description
The Food Services General Assistant is a member of a 9 person team that prepares food for approximately 650 students and employees Monday through Friday during the school year (mid-August to end of May, excluding school vacations). This is a temporary position that begins as soon as possible, with the possibility of becoming a permanent employee. The current hours are 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM on school days.
The team has been working together for many years, and provides a school lunch program that is enjoyed throughout the community. Daily, there is a hot lunch, salad bar, and sandwich option.
Key responsibilities include:
- Help with all food prep, which includes chopping and peeling
- Help make sure that all food is ready on time
- Help keep track of inventory
- Organize deliveries as needed
- Cover Front and Cashier, if needed
- Supports menu planning
- Help break down and clean stations
- Assist in maintaining cleanliness of the kitchen and food services area, including helping in the dish room as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Other requirements include:
- Understand food ingredients (and allergens) and food preparation methods
- Able to multi-task and establish effective priorities
- Ability to follow the daily prep list
- Enjoy working in a school environment
- Ability to understand verbal and written instructions in English, Spanish speaking is a plus!
Compensation
this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $21.00 - $23.00
