Company description

Fairfield & Greenwich Cheese Companies are award-winning cheese and specialty food shops in Fairfield County, CT. Our mission is to offer our customers the best farmstead and artisanally produced cheeses, charcuterie, and specialty pantry items, emphasizing top-notch, approachable customer service.

Sourcing Food with Integrity
We love supporting the American cheesemaker, other artisan food producers nationwide, and the smaller production of traditional cheeses worldwide. We forge relationships with small farms, cheesemakers, importers, and distributors to bring you the finest cheese and specialty foods. We aim to curate the best examples of classic European and the most delicious New World cheeses made today. The cheese has to be delicious, but equally important, it must be made in traditional ways and honor the animals, the land, and the people who work it.

We believe the food system in this country needs improvement, and by supporting the cheesemakers who do things right, we can effect change. We want to help family farms and preserve traditional foods, not large corporations. This food is healthier for us, better for the environment, and supports our rural communities.

Job description

Are you passionate about good food? Have you recently left a restaurant job? FairfieldCheese Company is hiring cheesemongers in training.

We are looking for a hardworking, responsible, and team-oriented individual. Excellent customer service skills and a passion for good food are essential.

What is a Cheesemonger?
The definition of the word "cheesemonger" is someone who sells cheese. That, of course, is the simple definition of what we do. We sell cheese, but our job is more complex than that. We act as the liaison between the producer and you, the consumer. We tend to the cheese until it's sold, and we advise and educate you so you can make the best choice possible. A true cheesemonger is passionate about cheese and should be able to recommend which cheeses pair well with which foods and wines. We always know which cheese is at its peak and in season. We know the story behind the cheese. A good cheesemonger is knowledgeable and approachable. In other words, a good cheesemonger will forge a relationship with you, learn your preferences, and happily share their passion.

We are willing to teach you everything we know about cheese and cheesemongering in a supportive, fun environment. It is an excellent job for people who are former restaurant staff.
