Moonwater Farm is a maker farm space that houses tools and materials for weaving food, nature, craft and solidarity in ways that honor biocultural heritage and traditional agricultural arts - a land-based learning center cultivating prosperity for all with food, fiber and plant medicine. Using a regenerative model, the farm offers a variety of living systems to explore including aquaponics, food forest, row crops, composting, and livestock. Seed to Shelf Program

Seed to Shelf™ is a yearlong 24 week grant funded skill building program for system impacted youth ages 14-26 designed to increase participant capacity and interest in our food system. Using items grown and tended at our urban farm, participants create a product or service they can sell.  Using a cooperative economic model, we focus on product development, relevant industry certifications, culinary skills, land tending and business. All youth participants will be paid a stipend.

Position Overview

Moonwater Farm is seeking a dedicated program coordinator to join the Moonwater Collective who will collaboratively manage the planning and delivery of our three-year Care First Community Investment (CFCI) grant responsibilities and existing farm programs. The coordinator will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful implementation of grant activities, financial compliance, community outreach, and program coordination. Moonwater Farm seeks a candidate with a passion for food and environmental justice who is organized, proactive, and can deliver impactful community programming. The Moonwater Collective is a small team and, when needed, all members of the team are expected to pitch in for certain projects and events. Traditional ecological knowledge honored.

Moonwater Farm is part of the CFCI Cohort 3 beginning July 1, 2024, and ending on June 30th, 2027. Moonwater’s deliverables fall under Program Area 30 – Community Farms. Responsibilities:

  • Plan and manage all administrative aspects of (CFCI) grant which advances Los Angeles County’s Care First, Jails Last vision.
  • Ensure financial compliance by tracking budget expenditures, payments, and financial transactions related to the grant.
  • Gather and analyze data from programs and their participants to provide valuable feedback for program improvement.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating programs and related farm activities.
  • Monitor program implementation to ensure adherence to policies, schedules, and budgets.
  • Coordinate and draft communications, including community outreach and media relations.
  • Guide program budgeting and billing processes.
  • Facilitate positive relationships among staff, clients, administrators, and stakeholders.
  • Schedule and organize program-related meetings and events.
  • Maintain accurate program records, reports, presentations, and proposals.
  • Generate monthly reports on budget and project updates.
  • Attend monthly collective management meetings.

  • Hours: Part-time, 3-year grant funded, non-exempt (hourly), hybrid, 16-20 hours weekly
  • Location: Compton, CA
  • Salary: $24 per hour

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in grant management, program coordination, urban agriculture, or a similar role.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective cross-cultural communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and Google Workspace.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and media relations
  • Familiarity with learning management systems and workflow platforms is a plus.
  • Takes a solution-oriented approach to project and program challenges and thrives when there isn't a clear path to the solution.
  • Willingness to travel to site locations in Los Angeles and work a flexible schedule, including the possibility of weekends and evening hours. (1-2x per month)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Degree in agriculture or related field or equivalent professional experience.
Non-profit experience.
