Position: Chef Instructor
Program: Culinary Arts Training Program
Salary: $60,000
Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:00am-4:00pm
Program Description:
Project Renewal’s Culinary Arts Training Program is a 6-month program which has 3 months kitchen training and 3 months on the job internship training in a commercial kitchen. Students are typically low-income, formerly incarcerated, and/or homeless adults.
Position Overview:
We are searching for a creative and dedicated Chef Instructor to join our culinary team. The Chef Instructor’s responsibilities include creating lesson plans, demonstrating culinary techniques, and overseeing the students as they cook and present their food. Our ideal candidate is a talented chef with a passion for teaching and the ability to inspire the students. They should have extensive knowledge of culinary techniques, food safety standards, and a knack for conveying this knowledge in an engaging manner.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Planning and delivering lectures on various culinary topics such as food preparation, cooking techniques, presentation styles and food safety.
- Teaching students knife skills, with an emphasis on different cuts.
- Conducting practical cooking demonstrations for students.
- Evaluating students’ practical cooking skills and providing constructive feedback.
- Creating and implementing lesson plans and curriculum in line with the school’s culinary program.
- Maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient classroom and kitchen environment.
- Staying up to date with the latest culinary trends and incorporating them into the curriculum.
- Organizing field trips to local restaurants or food-related events.
- Conducting exams and grading student performance.
- Teach four cycles of 20 students quarterly (4 times per year).
Qualifications:
- Proven work experience as a culinary instructor and/or 10+ years in food service industry.
- Excellent knowledge of culinary techniques and trends.
- Degree in Culinary Arts preferred.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Experience in a multicultural environment is a plus.
- Ability to provide a positive and effective learning environment.
All newly hired Project Renewal staff must provide verification of full vaccination against Covid-19.
Compensation
this position is: salaried, 50k-75k
