Job description

Salary: $175 per class

The Dalton School seeks a part-time culinary instructor for the After School Program starting 9/9/2024. Dalton’s vibrant teaching kitchen is home to a number of culinary integrations within academic classes and special events geared toward culinary education.  Our culinary program connects to many aspects of food including nutrition, supply chains, food insecurity and hunger, cultural and international perspectives, and farming in our connected greenhouse. Successful candidates must possess a detailed knowledge of kitchen operations, food safety, Department of Health standards and a commitment to culinary education. Prior experience teaching or working with young people is ideal.
 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee culinary class for the 5th and 6th class of 10-15 students each Tuesday and Wednesday from 2:45 PM - 5:00 PM.
  • Manage necessary preparation for all classes and create orders to be placed through Fresh Direct each week.
  • Collaborate with the High School Administration to ensure successful kitchen operations.
  • Create an inclusive, welcoming environment for students, faculty and staff.
  • Ensure health and safety protocols are strictly followed by all constituents while supervising students.

Qualifications:

  • 2 years’ experience in professional kitchen or a related field
  • 2 years’ experience as a culinary instructor
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to enforce stringent health and safety protocols
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion in the workplace
