MX Morningstar Farm was established in 2014 and grows a wide array of organic vegetables on 40 acres in Hudson, New York. We sell our produce through our onsite Farm Store, CSA, and wholesale distributors throughout Eastern New York, Western Connecticut, New York City, and the Berkshires. 

We grow dozens of different vegetable crops and flowers. Crops include potatoes, squash, tomatoes, lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, sweet potatoes, carrots, beets, radishes, sunflowers and much more. As a Certified Organic farm, we grow everything without the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers.

Our Farm Store is a year-round, bustling retail destination located on our farm. We specialize in organic produce and carry a variety of fruits, meat, cheeses, dairy, as well as other local and specialty food products.

Job description

Our farm store is a year-round, bustling retail destination based on our 40 acre organic vegetable farm located 10 minutes outside of Hudson in Claverack. We specialize in organic produce and carry a variety of fish, meat, cheeses, and dry goods, as well as other local and specialty food products. We sell seasonal items like plant starts, wreaths, flowers, and pumpkins as well as hosting weekend pop-ups indoors and outdoors. Our staff is trained in personable and high touch customer service as well as maintaining extremely high quality produce offerings. We are a growing business with expansion plans within the next 2-3 years and are always looking to add long-term staff to our team.

Day-to-day responsibilities include: 

• Opening the store: 

  • stocking produce 

  • organizing dry goods & bread shelves

  • stocking, organizing, and fronting the fridges and freezers as needed.

  • Produce prep: cleaning, sorting and bunching as needed to maintain quality and make produce shelf ready. 

• Running the store: 

  • staffing the register & bagging groceries

  • restocking & keeping the store looking neat and shelves piled high.

  • Answering customer questions & giving guidance on vegetable prep/storage. 

  • General maintenance of store “ambiance.”

• Closing the store: 

  • putting away fresh fruit & produce, including: soaking, trimming, and cleaning.

  • Composting vegetable scraps & keeping shrink logs updated

  • General end of the day tidying: restocking bags, stocking depleted fridge/shelf stock, vacuuming, mopping. 

• Miscellaneous Tasks, varying by day/season: 

  • receiving deliveries

  • organizing the walk-in

  • taking inventory

  • prepping fruit/vegetables for sale

  • general cleaning tasks

  • maintaining the outdoor space in front of the store 

  • other related tasks as needed. 

• Cleaning Duties: 

  • Vacuuming and mopping

  • Cleaning windows, light fixtures, doors, shelves, and the floor

  • Watering indoor plants

  • Organizing and cleaning out the display fridges and freezers

  • Dusting the dry goods area

  • Taking out compost, trash, and recycling

  • Rinsing and washing produce bins and flower buckets/vases

  • Washing and sanitizing cutting utensils and prep tools

  • Emptying the outdoor and indoor trash cans

  • Other miscellaneous cleaning duties as needed. {cleaning duties extend into our communal break room and bathroom. Please refer to the employee manual}

• Compensation

  • Hourly $18-$20/hr DOE

  • 20% discount on store products

  • $35/week on pre-loaded gift card to be spent on farm store goods (must be hired at 30hrs/week or more)

  • Free produce and scratch ‘n dent store goods from the “crew” section 

  • NYS Paid Sick Leave accrued at 1hr per 30hrs worked

  • Paid OT at 1.5x (Over 40hrs)

  • Paid Time Off: 

    • All full time employees are entitled to paid time off to be used at their discretion and to be paid at their regular hourly rate. 

    • Full time employees are eligible for 40 hrs PTO, up to a maximum of 160 hours PTO per year.

    • Part time employees are eligible for paid time off relative to the number of days they are regularly scheduled to work per week. (i.e. if you work 2 days/week then you receive 2 days paid per year).

Compensation

this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $18.00 - $20.00
