The Coffee Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of their store location while working side-by-side with their team to ensure a welcoming and efficient environment for customers. The manager will lead the team in delivering exceptional service, maintaining high standards of quality, and adhering to health and safety regulations. This role involves a mix of operational, administrative, and strategic responsibilities to ensure the café runs smoothly and successfully.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Daily Operations:
- Opening Procedures: Conduct an initial inspection of the shop to ensure cleanliness and organization.
- Preparation: set up coffee bar, arrange and label pastries, ensure cleanliness and hygiene throughout the café, and set up customer areas.
- Customer Service: Set the standard for exceptional customer service with energy and a positive attitude, treat customers and staff with respect, empathy, and understanding, and engage with your team and customers.
- Inventory Management: Conduct quick inventory checks of key items and note any items that need to be reordered.
- Retail Displays/Fridge Management: Organize and maintain the retail shelves and fridge, checking for damaged or expired items. Utilize FIFO.
Monthly Responsibilities:
- Deep Cleaning and Maintenance: Clean and sanitize all equipment, deep clean fridges, dishwashers, ice machines, storage areas, and conduct maintenance checks on coffee machines and grinders.
- Menu Maintenance and Updates: Review menu boards for accuracy. Replace/fix any menus that aren’t up to visual standards
- DOHMH Compliance: Conduct mock inspections, review health and safety protocols, and ensure all licenses and permits are up to date.
- Inventory Management: Conduct full inventory counts, check for expired products, reorganize stock, and order necessary supplies.
Team Leadership:
- Mentoring and Inspiring: Mentor and inspire baristas, encourage open communication, create a safe space for the team, and provide constructive feedback through performance reviews.
- Communication: Check and respond to inter-company communications, and relay information to the team.
- Delegation and Coordination: Delegate responsibilities to ensure smooth operations, store cleanliness, coordinate breaks and shift coverage, and collaborate closely with the Roastery team.
Reporting:
- Keep management informed with regular reports, updates, and ideas.
Expectations:
- Professionalism: Conduct yourself with professionalism and authenticity, reflecting the values of Café Grumpy.
- Atmosphere: Help maintain a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.
- Attention to Detail: Maintain high quality and presentation standards, minimize waste, and control costs.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Roastery team, providing feedback on roasted coffees and ensuring accurate orders. Work with marketing team to facilitate promotions and specials.
- Problem-Solving: Attention to detail, clear communication, and problem-solving skills are important.
- Maintenance: Stay on top of maintenance and report any issues as they come up to appropriate contacts.
- Proven experience in a managerial role, preferably in the food and beverage industry.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of NYC Department of Health regulations and compliance.
- DOHMH Certificate
Compensation:
