Company description Mountain Lodge Farm, LLC is an award winning goat dairy in the foothills of Mt. Rainier where we take our passion for goats and our love of cheese to create something special from this green oasis. We received and first place and second place medal in American Cheese Society Contest 2024!  Our focus is on creating an excellent product for local chefs, consumers and stores. Our farm includes our herd of dairy goats , guard llamas (Claire, Sabine, Kuzco, Kohana, Kombucha, and cria Blizzard and his mom Snowshoe), guard dogs (Huck, Finn, Mo, Eve, Wyatt, Livi ,Mae and Zeke) and our herd of Black Welsh Mountain Sheep  rotationally grazed on pasture and raised for meat.  We enjoy bringing together people of different ages, geography, and experiences to create a stimulating, but wonderful team.
 

We have a small, state of the art creamery that we designed and built. We have 4 temperature/humidity controlled aging and drying rooms, a packaging room, a 52 gallon vat, bulk tank and small tasting room. We have produced bloomy rind cheese, chevre, washed rind, natural rind and both pasteurized and raw aged cheeses as well as pasteurized goat milk.

Additionally we have a small commercial kitchen for producing cajeta, cheesecake, and other products from our farm.

Job description We are Mountain Lodge Farm, a farmstead goat dairy and sheep farmers in the foothills of Mt. Rainier in Washington State. Our goal is to provide the highest level of animal care and to produce the best quality fresh and aged cheeses and exquisite pasture raised lamb. Our milking does are Nigerian Dwarf goats, which are known for the sweet flavor and high fat content of their milk. and La Mancha goats (great milk and curious personalities) and La Mancha/Nigerian crosses for a beautiful and diverse herd.  We raise a heritage breed of sheep, Black Welsh Mountain to provide a quality local meat source. We believe great cheese and meat starts with the animals. We're looking for someone to join our team.

Skills desired: Experience with animals and farming is preferred, and a love of animals is required. All necessary training will be provided on the job.  We have an excellent staff that make a supportive and welcoming team and are looking for someone to add to that spirit. Attention to detail, patience and positivity help things in the barn, sheep field and creamery go smoothly. The ability to lift up to 40 pounds and do strenuous physical work is required. A clean driving record is necessary. We are animal and nature lovers, and a passion for both is key!

Job description: We are hiring full time positions. These positions focus on the animals including daily milking, and care of goats, sheep, llamas, dogs and cats.  Farm employees typically work in teams for an 8 hour day in the height of the season (there is an early and late shift and staff work one or the other). Our milking days start at 6am and go until 7pm in the height of the season, until we switch to once a day milking. You will have two days off a week and the days will be consecutive.

Farming job responsibilities include feeding and care of animals, milking doe herd (you will learn hand and bucket milking), assisting with farm events, farmers markets and product delivery, and animal husbandry (hoof trimming, dairy clips, breeding management, birthing assistance, kid feeding, medical care and animal assessment). Also, rotational grazing of sheep, cleaning and sanitation of milking equipment and facilities, cheese tasting, building and repairing of fencing, shelters, equipment, assisting in commercial kitchen.  There is always something to be cleaned, problem solved or fixed. it is never boring.  

There also will be opportunities to assist with teaching and experiential learning. 

Compensation: Depends on experience. Health benefits possible following a 90-day probation. Compensation this position is : hourly, $20/hr + Application instructions
