The Holy Cross Retreat House has been a source of faith renewal for all those who are welcomed home to our facility and into a safe space to deepen their relationship with God since 1964. Our facility is a converted cow barn that was once owned by the Ames family. 

Since then, the Retreat House has hosted Cursillo retreats, Matt Talbots retreats, Scripture Retreats, and many others throughout the years. We have opened our doors to new groups and our now booked year-round. We are becoming a full-time operation on weekends and starting to book retreats during the week. 

The Retreat House has continued its good works for generations of retreat-goers by creating holy ground that is continuously supported and loved by our community of volunteers.

Job description

Summary
As the Chef Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the culinary operations of our retreat house. This
position requires flexibility, as you will assist the chef in various tasks, including meal preparation, cooking, and kitchen
and garden maintenance. Additionally, you should be comfortable working independently when needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
(Includes the following: other duties may be assigned.)
 Assist the chef in meal preparation, including chopping vegetables, preparing ingredients, and following recipes.
• Work independently as a prep cook to ensure that ingredients are ready for use during meal service.
• Cook independently for occasional day retreats/breakfasts/as-needed relief cook for the chef.
• Support the chef in cooking and serving meals to retreat participants, adhering to established dietary guidelines
and restrictions.
• Assist in retreat house garden maintenance, including planting, harvesting, occasional weeding, and other duties
as needed
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and storing
food properly.
• Assist with inventory management, including restocking supplies and monitoring food and supply levels.
• Assist with local produce pickups/occasional grocery runs.
• Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in responding to the dynamic needs of the retreat house.

Compensation

this position is: hourly, $20/hr +
