Creamery Manager Job Description

 

Position Summary

  • Reports to Director of Operations
  • Full time, salaried position, approximate 30-50 hours per week
  • Shifts involve early mornings and often exceed 8 hours
  • Ability to work weekends and remain flexible given needs of the creamery and team is essential
  • Bi-weekly paychecks paid via direct deposit
  • Pay is salaried, $45,000 - $50,000 a year
  • Position includes unlimited PTO with approval and opportunity for bonuses based on company performance
  • This position has multiple direct reports

 

The primary responsibility of this role is the management of daily operations of the creamery. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Oversight and participation in the production of all SCC cheeses
  • In coordination with Director of Operations and Director of Sales, creation and management of production schedule
  • Scheduling of creamery team, ensuring adequate coverage on all production days as well as the timeliness of team
  • Direct management of the creamery team and milk truck driver. This includes daily supervision and participation of performance reviews and following through on corrective actions when appropriate
  • Participating in the review and hiring of new employees
  • Supply inventory and purchasing, including but not limited to cheese making supplies, operational essentials such as hand soap and gloves, cleaning supplies and bulk tank equipment
  • Regular qualitative assessment of cheeses with team and ownership, meeting quality and production goals and adjusting targets when necessary
  • Contribute to the research and development of new cheeses
  • Participate in financial and operational audits as needed
  • Leads and participates in the continual training and professional development of the team, maintains training program and associated documentation
  • Updates and maintains food safety/HACCP plan, SOPs, GMPs and all supporting documents associated with creamery production
  • Oversees all aspects of affinage, including schedule of cheese care and maintenance of affinage space and tools
  • Ensures cleaning schedules are adhered to, as well as the safe and appropriate use of cleaning agents. Ensures calibration kits are available and in use
  • Participates in 3rd party environmental and product testing, oversight of documentation and corrective action when necessary
  • Data entry accuracy validation

 

Expected Meetings

  • Leads weekly production huddle
  • Participates in weekly (?) sales huddle

 

Position Requirements

  • PCQI certification (SCC will support certification if not current)
  • Minimum 3 years cheesemaking experience
  • Minimum 1 year management experience
  • Must be able to safely lift 50 lbs
  • Must be able to work in cold and damp work environment, as well as hot and humid conditions
  • Must have the proper mobility required when performing repetitive tasks such as bending, stopping, squatting and standing for long periods of time. Repetitive tasks such as brushing, washing, flipping and general handling of cheese also require mobility of hands and shoulders
  • Comfortable providing feedback to colleagues and employees
  • Comfortable receiving feedback from team

Compensation
