Job description

Variety’s Director of Wholesale will manage the company’s operations and give strategic support and guidance to the wholesale team to ensure that overall objectives are met. The Director of Wholesale is responsible for the growth and performance of the company, and will work closely with ownership to deepen its identity and impact.  This is a full-time, salaried position reporting directly to the ownership  of Variety Coffee Roasters.

 
THE WHOLESALE DIRECTOR WILL: 

  • Effectively manage staff to cultivate an excellent, healthy company environment in which staff are given clear directives and feedback, and are empowered to do their best work.
  • Work with owner to prepare an annual strategic plan for the wholesale program that can be translated into individual targets and objectives for team members. Monitor and communicate regularly with staff on plan progress. 
  • Prepare and monitor the implementation of an annual budget for the  wholesale program to ensure that targets are met, that revenue grows and COGS are minimized. 
  • Represent the company in negotiations with customers, suppliers, and other key stakeholders to secure the most effective contract terms.
  • Work with Variety’s leadership and coffee team to ensure that wholesale customers’ needs and expectations are met.  


RESPONSIBILITIES  INCLUDE: 

Corporate Growth
Pursue consistent, aggressive corporate growth 

  • Grow wholesale company at a rate that outpaces cost and meets targets provided by ownership 
  • Increase number of wholesale accounts quarter over quarter
  • Increase company revenue year over year 
  • Identify operational threats and opportunities to ensure optimal performance
  • Maintain dynamic and competitive pricing models based on industry standard and product quality

Marketing and Branding
Ensure continued brand relevance 

  • Work with Variety’s leadership and  industry professionals  to continue to craft a formidable visual brand 
  • Oversee translation of brand to public-facing material including social and print media, merchandise, and customer-facing assets
  • Identify events and functions that serve as an opportunity to expand cultural brand presence; oversee and execute Variety’s contribution to those events 

Management & Leadership
Adopt a clear and empathetic approach to management

  • Lead by example in all functions of the role, modeling what effective time management, team work, follow-through and communication should look like
  • Support wholesale team by helping them accomplish the goals and projects that forward the progress of the company, as well as their individual professional development
  • Identify staff strengths and pair those with company needs 
  • Communicate clearly and with empathy the company’s expectations of each reporting role; continuously help connect those expectations to larger company objectives
  • Provide regular feedback to staff about where the company’s expectations of their performance are and are not being met
  • Identify common goals, values and vision and share them consistently with the team 
  • Create systems of communication and mutual accountability in which employees feel both responsible to their team and manager, as well as confident that their manager is accountable to them
  • Promote a culture of humility, self-evaluation, respect and constant learning 
  • Assume responsibilities of any reporting role in their absence 

REQUIREMENTS

  • 3-5 years direct sales experience and proven success in converting customers and closing sales
  • Proven leadership experience      
  • Proven history of setting and driving strategic sales initiatives in a fast paced  environment   
  • Strong desire for customer experience excellence
  • Flexible schedule to include periodic travel, weekends, participation in events, and after-hours work
  • Basic technical aptitude and a desire to learn about various coffee equipment

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: 

  • The annual salary range for this role is between $95,000 and $120,000 and is commensurate with experience
  • Vision, Dental and Health benefits available after a standard 30 day waiting period
