This Lyme, CT farm is named Beaver Brook for the creek that runs through the property en route to the Connecticut River. The farm makes and sells artisanal sheep and cow’s milk cheeses as well as milk. The Wool Shop features hand-spun wool garments including socks, scarves, sweaters, hats, vests, and blankets. They also sell yarn made from their own wool. They offer fresh lamb, chicken, beef, and fresh eggs at their farm store beside homemade entrees such as white bean chili and lamb curry stew. . Sankow’s Beaver Brook Farm is open daily 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and attends several area farmer's markets.
Job description
Sankows is seeking a manager with strong communication skills, work ethic and an ability to collaborate and work independently. The Forage and Livestock Manager will report to Victoria, the Farm Manager, and Stan and Sue Sankow the founders of Beaver Brook Farm.
This position comes with on farm housing in scenic rural Connecticut.
Responsibilities:
- Herd management of Jersey and Sheep Dairy (we make award winning cheeses)
- 2X per day, year round milking of micro raw milk rotationally grazed Jersey dairy cattle
- 1X per day, seasonal milking of raw milk sheep herd
- Daily feeding of entire livestock herd with nutritional experience a plus
- Poultry care and management
- Manure and nutrient management
- Forage management including rotational grazing and haying
Compensation
this position is: salaried, varies DOE, $35,568.00 - $50,000.00
