Company description

Barrett's Mill Farm is a women-owned certified organic vegetable, fruit and flower farm growing on 14 acres of town-owned land in Concord, Massachusetts. We sell the large majority of our produce through our farm stand and our 200-member CSA. As part of our community-oriented goals we also provide free CSA shares to two local non-profits, donate produce to food pantries weekly, and offer reduced price memberships as part of the SNAP/HIP program.

Job description

We are seeking a friendly and energetic Shopkeeper to help staff our bustling farm stand (which includes the CSA and farm store). This is a great opportunity for someone who is enthusiastic about vegetables and connecting with customers!

Schedule:
• Wednesday 10am - 7pm, and Saturday 8am - 4pm.
• There is a possibility of an additional 10-20 hours/week on the Field Crew for the right candidate.
• Availability by the first CSA distribution in early June is a must. Position runs late May/early June until late October.

Responsibilities:
• Maintain a welcoming and pleasant atmosphere in the farm stand.
• Ensure food safety protocols are followed.
• Answer customer questions about produce and the farm’s growing practices.
• Maintain an attractive produce display throughout the day. Bag, bunch, sort and stock produce as necessary.
• Wash produce bins, clean floors, and keep the farm stand and wash area organized and clean.
• Ring up customer purchases in Square and process EBT payments.
• Keep track of product inventory and notify farm managers if anything is running low.
• Break down farm stand produce display at the end of the day. Closing responsibilities include carrying bins of produce back to the cooler, cleaning the farm stand and wash area, and closing the barn and farm stand for the evening.

Qualifications:
• Previous experience in customer service preferred but not required.
• Comfortable using Google spreadsheets.
• Familiarity cooking with seasonal produce is a plus.
• Positive attitude, good sense of humor and strong work ethic.
• Ability to lift and carry 40lbs over uneven ground.
• Organized, punctual and attentive to detail.

Compensation: Pay is $15-17/hour depending on experience. Shopkeepers also have access to free farm veggies.
