Atina Foods (AF) is a specialty food business based in Catskill, NY. We specialize in the traditional preservation of marginalized regional produce. Our forte is preservation of locally available ingredients to create uniquely flavorful fermented and preserved condiments. Our mission is to produce and share holistic food based on traditional knowledge systems, incorporating global tastes while maintaining a focus on balance, wellness and locality.

 

Along with our commercial production of locally made condiments, Atina Foods has been conducting fermentation and cooking workshops throughout the Hudson Valley with regular outreach at local Farmers Markets, festivals and events, while hosting a multitude of meals to bring people together, share food, knowledge and local economy.

Job description

We are building a series of workshops based on the practices and the handiwork of food preservation that we have been learning over the past 10 years. These workshops are being designed to impart hands-on practical skills as they evoke material knowledge and cultural practices in a broad, natural, bio-cultural environment.

We are looking for a dependable person to join our team to help us in organizing these workshops and over see our new series.

Workshops will take place at Atina's Studio Kitchen in the town of Catskill NY, starting May 2024 to run through the end of October. 

The actual position will start at the end of March, and applicants must commit to the entire project.


Job Duties

  • Communication, Online and Offline.
    Includes, but not limited to: Preparation of the newsletter, Maintaining mailing list, Social media posts (announcements and documentation), Update website, Announcements. Orderly calendars.
    Communicate with visiting practitioners, scheduling, needs for both workshop participants and leads pre and post workshop.
  • Systematization of documents of practitioners, workshops and attendees. 
  • Workshops. Preparation, involvement in planning meetings with AF and with visiting workshop leads. On top of: workshop needs, supplies, printouts, mailings etc. Attendance, overseeing, assistance during workshops and help in setting up and breaking down.
  • Document (written and media) Log extra needs visitors may express. Attend and document workshop assessment discussion. Maintain clear log and documentation of workshops with assessment notes for future iterations. Photograph actual workshop in action for posting and website.
  • Future possibilities. Development of online workshops, website, publications etc. 2025.

Skillset

  • Enjoys organizing & mapping out tasks, working with and sharing knowledge and seeing ideas through to action.
  • Good Organization and Communication skills. With both technology and people. Knowledge of creating and sharing collaborative documents across platforms. Scheduling of events, visitors and needs. Upkeep of Calendar. Systematization of documents of practitioners, workshops and attendees. 
  • Good writing ability. Newsletter, posts and written communication.
  • Good interpersonal skills. To communicate between all parties online, email and live, in meetings and events.
  • Computer savvy. Newsletter, mailing lists, website updates, collaborative documents, shareability of documents and follow through. 
  • Social Media: Agility and up to date with trends and posting (IG, FB). Canva, Photoshop or other. How to get posts seen is a plus. 
  • Creativity: Social media posts. Workshop input and ideas.
  • Problem Solving Skills. Good decision making and problem solving skills, follow through and commitment.
  • Interest in food, skill sharing and traditional practices with a belief in a holistic philosophy.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing environment and needs of business.

Required

  • Own a reliable computer and have good internet service.
  • Reside within a reachable distance to Catskill, New York for bi-monthly workshops.
  • Commitment to entire project series through October 2024.

Useful

  • Experience in educational environments, teaching, workshops etc.
  • Kitchen work, food practitioner, whether professional or home-based.
  • Gardening, local plant knowledge.


Hours and Compensation

Hybrid position, 15-20 hours per month. This includes weekly tasks of communication, workshop prep and social posts along with bi monthly workshop attendance. Work will start together at AF, and can eventually be done from home remotely. *Required: Live attendance 3 - 4 hours for workshops to take place on weekends, bi-monthly, May through October. 

This is a 7 month contract position, with room to grow.

Extension of employment possible as series runs. 
Pay rate per hour or for project as a whole.

Compensation

this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
