The WRCP is a non-profit organization that operates inside the historic general store in West Townshend, VT.  Our mission is to support local agricultural, economic, and social activities.  The organization executes its mission through a variety of means, including a donation-based cafe that sources ingredients from local farms, a thrift store, a post office, a farmer's market, a community center and a gallery space.  We also offer a commercial kitchen available for rent and facilitate a large number of events based around food and community.

Job description

The position requires a hands-on working kitchen manager and is an excellent opportunity to take the reins of one of the few donation-based cafes in the country, operating in beautiful southern Vermont.  The primary focus is on providing exciting, affordable, healthy meals that are centered on community and sourced from as many local farm vendors as possible.  The position will be challenging but could be extremely rewarding for the right candidate.  Job requirements include but are not limited to: 
  • Managing kitchen staff and volunteers, create schedules, training, ensure all events are appropriately staffed and standard Health Department guidelines are followed.
  • Overseeing maintenance of the kitchen space and working with the director to see that maintenance is performed in a timely fashion. The kitchen should be cleaned daily with deep cleaning taking place as necessary, keep the walk in, freezers and dry storage are clean, organized and code compliant.
  • Create and deliver exciting, delicious meals that highlight local farms for community meal nights. Appeal to a wide variety of tastes and individuals with dietary restrictions (vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free, vegetarian, paleo)
  • Collaborate with the director to ensure all food-based events are properly marketed and executed. Keep clear accurate records of food-based events and cafe activity.
  • Be responsible for the commercial kitchen space, maintaining cleanliness, communicating with the director to ensure the space is code compliant, collaborate with director on scheduling, billing and marketing of the space, 
  • Complete weekly food/supply inventories, work with director to establish a establish a budget with ordering guidelines.
  • Be present when orders are delivered and correct errors on delivery.
  • Work to save money on food ordering through resourcefulness and ingenuity NOT low-quality ingredients.
  • Complete weekly beer/wine inventories, collaborate with the director on order frequency and be present to check in the delivery and correct and discrepancies.
Required Skills:
Be welcoming and charismatic with customers and staff
Knowledgeable about specials or new menu items
Communicate clearly with customers about locally sourced ingredients.
Be highly communicative with the director, staff and board.
Have experience in food service management.

Skills that would be a plus:
Wood-fired pizza prep and cooking
Proficient in Square POS System
Baking experience
Food Costing experience

Compensation

this position is: salaried, 35,568* - 50k
