We are seeking a dynamic Executive Director who is prepared to seize the opportunity to initiate a new era for Farm Table Delivery as a newly formed non-profit entity. This offers an exciting prospect for a seasoned leader to drive innovation and shape the organization's trajectory toward increasing local food access and advocacy throughout the Midwest region.
Position Description:
Farm Table Delivery seeks an Executive Director who will oversee current operations while strategically moving the organization into its next phase as a non-profit. The Executive Director will be responsible for directing all aspects of the food hub, as well as engaging and developing relationships and programs involving key stakeholders, funders, donors, and Board of Directors.
FTD is a food hub that serves wholesale and retail customers from Des Moines, Iowa to Omaha, Nebraska, including schools, restaurants, grocery/retail stores, food banks, and individuals.
Responsibilities:
The Executive Director will ensure efficient and effective operations, while meeting a variety of revenue targets, facilitating grant participation, engaging farmers and producers, developing the organization’s food access objectives, and successfully launching the programmatic goals of the non-profit. This work will be done in the context of supporting and collaborating with the network of food hubs across Iowa, and surrounding states.
Strategic Leadership (25%)
- Spearhead FTD’s non-profit mission in close collaboration with the Board of Directors, staff, and stakeholders. Continuously strive for seamless alignment of mission, operations, and programs.
- Develop and implement a strategic plan that expands the existing food hub customer base while promoting the new and extended mission and vision of the organization.
- Oversee the daily administration of the organization by implementing policies, procedures, and programs.
Operations Management (30%)
- With assistance from the Operations Manager, direct, support, and oversee day-to-day activities of the food hub, including a staff team and warehouse based in Harlan, sales, procurement, facilities, and trucking, in addition to the processes and technologies that support these activities.
- Draft and implement performance standards; conduct performance reviews for staff
- Perform other related duties as assigned. Step in to help in the event of crisis, short staffing, etc. Food hub logistics are at the mercy of farms and weather!
Communications + Advocacy (10%)
- Grow a culture of collaboration, effective communication, and meaningful impact.
- Collaborate with regional food hub partners to identify opportunities and partnerships that enhance the visibility of the mission and value of local food.
- Act as the representative of Farm Table in various community gatherings, meetings, and conferences of relevance.
- Lead efforts to include diverse voices in all aspects of the organization's work.
Finance + Funding (35%)
- Institute overall grant funding strategy, including the submission of grant applications, especially at the state and federal levels, and the management of grant-funded initiatives. Ensure compliance with reporting and legal obligations.
- Build relationships with a wide array of key players in the food system, including individuals, local and national foundations, as well as local, state, and federal government funders. Ensure diversification of revenue sources.
- Oversee financial matters in cooperation with the bookkeeper and the Board of Directors.
- Adhere to budget, manage financial reporting, and accurate documentation of grant activities.
- Facilitates periodic audits and compliance activities for the organization.

What our ideal candidate would bring to the job:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Business Administration, Agricultural Management, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, or related fields (or equivalent experience);
- 3 years of team management experience in a non-profit, farm or food business, or related sector. Need to have trained and managed a team of staff.
- Passion for Mission: Deep commitment to Farm Table Delivery’s mission, vision, and values.
- Operational Excellence: Track record of operating a business or organization that moves products or provides services to customers daily.
- Equity Focus: A strong understanding of class and racial equity and justice, and how this impacts organizational and service design.
- Financial Management & Fundraising: Experience building and managing to budgets, fundraising, and overseeing the financial health of organizations.
- Farming & Food Systems Knowledge: Has empathy and understanding of what it takes to farm and how this connects to the larger health of communities.
- Communication and Networking: Proactive, clear communicator that can build rapport with diverse stakeholders and audiences.
Work Environment + Travel: Remote up to 4 days per week. 1 day per week at our warehouse in Harlan. Periodic in-person events and meetings as needed. Frequent communication by phone, text, and email during business hours and sometimes weekends.
Compensation
this position is: salaried, 75k-100k
