Located in Hunterdon County, NJ, Grand Cru (French for ‘Great Growth’) is a young farm – this upcoming year will be our second in vegetable production, and we will begin livestock production. As our name implies, cultivating high-end, delicious produce and meat is our primary goal. We strive to do this in a low-till, regenerative, organic context, taking care of the earth, each other, and our communities.
Job description
We are seeking full-time, year-round farmers. Team members can expect to participate in all aspects of vegetable and livestock production, selling of produce at farmers’ markets, as well as other farm related tasks, such as orchard establishment and infrastructure projects. Some evenings and weekends will be required, and expect to work 40-55 hours per week during the peak season.
Requirements:
-Ability to sit, stand, kneel, and bend over repetitively
-Ability to lift 50 pounds repetitively
-Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions for at least 8 hours a day
-Ability to work some weekends and evenings
-Ability to work and communicate effectively in a team setting
-Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a tractor and market van (or willingness to learn)
-2+ years experience in similar positions (if you have less experience you can apply to our seasonal farmhand position)
Responsibilities (non-exhaustive list):
-Greenhouse seeding and watering
-Vegetable production: plant, cultivate, harvest, wash, and pack produce in an efficient manner
-Livestock production (chicken and sheep): ensure that animals have their dietary needs met, monitor livestock for signs of stress, move fencing and animals, wash and pack eggs, process chickens
-Market days: set up and tear down, display and sell produce and meat
-Help with general farm upkeep, such as mowing and cleaning
