Pop Up Grocer
Kitchen Manager
Reporting to the Store Manager, the Kitchen Manager is responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of all fresh food service. The Kitchen Manager is expected to maintain a clean, efficient food service environment (front and back of house) and is responsible for coordinating all kitchen-related activities, including training programs for new baristas. The Kitchen Manager serves as quality assurance for the team and is relied upon for their ever-growing food safety knowledge.
Responsibilities:
Team Leadership and Training:
- Own hiring, training, development, and accountability of kitchen associates
- Oversee delegation of prep work, ensuring efficiency and adherence to daily pars
Operational Excellence:
- Manage day-to-day Back of House (BOH) operations, emphasizing productivity and efficiency
- Maintain consistent quality and accuracy of daily output
- Adjust recipes as needed to enhance quality of menu offerings
- Collaborate with Operations Manager on menu pricing
Cost Control and Inventory/Ordering Management:
- Monitor and manage kitchen finances, proactively identifying and implementing cost and waste reduction measures
- Own BOH ordering, inventory, and vendor management
- Maintain recipe documents and mapping, updating as needed
Regulatory Compliance and Sanitation:
- Implement and maintain food safety procedures, to ensure compliance with both NYC DOH and NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets standards
- Track and uphold established culinary and safety standards
Skills + Experience:
- NYC Food Handler’s License required
- Must have strong culinary knowledge with hands-on experience cooking and baking in commercial kitchens
- Previous food-service leadership experience is preferred
- Strong communication skills, assertiveness, and decisiveness are essential
