Job description
HEX Superette, a unique tasting room and local market in Baltimore's Govans neighborhood, is seeking a Beverage Host to provide exceptional guest experiences and support our mission of promoting local, healthy, and sustainable food. This role involves welcoming guests, assisting them in navigating the tasting room's diverse food and beverage offerings, and fostering a sense of community. The Beverage Host will work closely with the owners, collaborate on beverage programs, and play a vital role in educating guests about fermentation and preservation techniques while promoting local ingredients.

Key Responsibilities of the Beverage Host:
- Exceptional Customer Experience: The Beverage Host's primary responsibility is to provide superb guest experience. This includes taking food and drink orders, preparing drinks, and serving food to ensure a memorable time for our guests. As the first point of contact, you'll share the story of HEX Superette with customers, contributing to word-of-mouth marketing and building a loyal customer base.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the owners to execute the current beverage program and explore opportunities for expansion.
- POS Checkout: You’ll check out guests, assist with online orders to-go and may be called upon to help guests in the market. We currently use Shopify as our Point of Sale system.
- Product Knowledge: Continuously learn about all HEX Ferments products and local goods available at HEX Superette, including the selection of wine, beer, and spirits.
- Inventory Management: Maintain timely and adequate inventory of ingredients for the bar and tasting room. Cultivate and strengthen relationships with beverage suppliers.
- Cleanliness: Ensure the tasting room is clean and well-organized, including washing glassware, rolling silverware, resetting tables, and following established sanitation procedures.
- Compliance: Adhere to written HACCP plans, SOPs (Standard/Sanitary Operating Procedures), and opening and closing checklists.
- Equipment Maintenance: Familiarity with and maintenance of equipment such as tap lines, kegs, and alkaline water systems.
- Special Drink Projects: Collaborate with the owners and HEX Ferments Team to create unique cocktails and mocktails using house-made ingredients like shrubs, oxymels, tinctures, vinegars, verjus, vermouth, and tonics.
Qualifications:
- Guest-Focused: Enjoy providing outstanding hospitality and creating experiences that keep guests returning and recommending HEX Superette.
- Collaborative Spirit: Adaptability, patience, flexibility, and reliability are crucial in this new establishment, where you'll work closely with hands-on owners daily.
- Bartending Experience: Minimum of 1 year or Bartending Certification, with additional training in alcohol awareness and fermentation basics provided upon hiring.
- Multi-Tasking: Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and remain composed during busy periods.
- Team Player: Possess mature interpersonal skills and collaborate effectively with colleagues.
Working Conditions:
- Physical Demands: The role requires standing, lifting (up to 50 lbs), bending, climbing, and operating equipment.
- Mental Demands: Multitasking, problem-solving, communication, organization, evaluation, planning, and coordination.
- Environmental Conditions: The job includes both indoor and outdoor settings, exposure to various temperatures, and working around people, sometimes in a loud environment. There may also be exposure to cleaning chemicals, as well as a kitchen that handles various food items.
- $17 per hour plus tips (current average is $25-27/hour)
- Paid every week via direct deposit on Fridays
- After 90 days: Paid Time Off (PTO) accrued at the rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked, 5 days paid sick leave, renews every year on hire date
- 25% discount on all items in the HEX Superette
