You come in the kitchen with sharp knives. Breakdown the fish and have it ready for sashimi. You will have an opportunity to lean how to make sushi, sashimi, and other prepared food items all with the highest quality seafoods you will find in NYC. You take care the customers that come in the store or orders will come in online. It's important to appreciate that each customer provides us an opportunity to learn with the order that they give to us.
You take an order from the customer and wrap the fish or prepared the food for that customers. You will be cleaning up your own dishes. The entire store will need to be spotless clean after you finish your day.
Respect for ingredients, customers, and team members are mandatory.
Internship description
Looking for people with previous kitchen experiences who are looking for improving their fish butchery skills especially with the focus on how to prepare sashimi. Previous customer service experience will be essential. This position is not about butchering fish. It's more about assisting customers how to buy fish and make sushi at home.
Osakana applies Japanese ways of handling fish with the philosophy of Mottainai "no waste." Your day starts always with sharpening your knives with wet stones, butchering a lot of fish that changes daily, you will be washing your own dishes, and you will end your day cleaning the floor.
Osakana functions as a commissary kitchen for Okonomi/YUJI Ramen as well. You will be making ramen broth as well utilizing all of the fish bones. You will earn the life time fish butchery skills that you will not learn anywhere else.
Compensation
this position is: salaried, $15-20/hr
