Reed’s Organic Farm and Animal Sanctuary is a non-profit organization and a regenerative farm that uses organic practices located in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey. We aim to help the local community by creating a hub onsite that serves as an animal rescue, a platform for sustainable, organic farming and as an employer for individuals with special needs. Reed's Organic Farm also participates in local outreach programs to bring food justice and democracy to the Atlantic City region. We currently have a diverse and talented group of full time staff and volunteers that maintain and run the farm. 

Job description

This person will be responsible for overseeing daily operations of Reed’s organic farm in regards to the crop planning/ implementing/ harvesting/ and correct distribution of product. You will be working directly with the Farm Director to coordinate weekly schedules, plans, and projects to encourage plant production and seasonal crop sales. You will also be working with volunteers and crew members with varied experience in the agriculture industry. This position will also be in charge of working alongside and coordinating with our current cohort of interns to assist cultivation, irrigation, seeding, planting, pest control and plant maintenance. 

Experience and Qualifications:

Minimum of two years of farming experience, preferably in organic and sustainable farming. Permaculture experience and knowledge about regenerative farming is a plus. Medicinal plant and herbal knowledge is also helpful since we have both crop fields and medicinal garden plots. Experience in flower production and tunnel management is also valued for this position. Management experience for a crew size of 6+ people for daily tasks is a must. Clear communication and transparent people skills are a must as well as attention to detail and completion of goals and tasks are important. Tractor and equipment experience are helpful but we are also available to train for equipment use since there will be both physical and mechanical work. This position requires a lot of teamwork and coordination, it also requires someone who is able to see the bigger picture of the farm and our mission and participate in community outreach for food justice in the Atlantic County area. 

Working conditions for this position are mainly outside on the 73 acres that we operate on here. We have roughly 6 acres of crops, flowers, blueberry production, and around 30 acres of alfalfa production. This position is seasonal working July 1st into the end of December, however there is room and the possibility to extend this to a year round position if the season ahead is a good fit for both parties. 
 

Compensation for this position ranges from $15-$20 depending on experience. The weekly hours for this position range from 35-40 and the interview process will be both a working interview as well as a sit down interview with the farm director and board of directors.
